My son and I are restoring a 74 super, almost ready to start priming stuff and he decides it needs a Subaru motor.
Sooooo....Picked up (for cheap) a 2012 outback. With 190k km. Not scared of making room for the ej253 in the back, however... I didn't realize the issues the newer ones have with the canbus and DBW. I don't think the stock ecu/ECM can work now. Stand alone controller would work but I'm not sure if Its worth all the extra work/cost at this point. Has anyone done this? I'm starting to consider flipping the car and keep looking for something with a ej22. They are real hard to come by in good running condition where I live. We also wanted to end with around 180hp so the stock ej253 is close enough, don't plan on doing more then that. So I'm keeping this in mind, getting a ej22 close to 180 might require a 2.5 hybrid, so might keep the motor we just got for that.....if it's still compatible.
