HT leads

Post by UKLuke72 »

Running wasted spark on a ford 4 post coil, 2 BIP373 drivers, with resistor plugs.

Do I need high resistance plug wires or low?

I'm getting a really weak spark, new plugs, new coil. Not really sure what to check from here.

I spoke to a retailer who does those cheaper electronic distributors.
He recommended carbon core leads to prevent an AC backfeed.
I have seen no scientific studies to back the theory up.
Davis Vizard or someone reputable may have answers.
Vw have used copper core 1940>1990s no problems but that was with the bosch hall system. Carbon core leads in 1960s would last 12 months.
If going non copper try magnecor, ngk or something respectable made in USA or Europe.
Testing the whole system may reveal a clue like bad engine earth or whatever.

Carbon core leads were used by manufacturers in the 1960ies because they were cheap, not good.
They did not last.
Why anyone's selling them today is a mystery.
Spiralling wound type maybe OK if known brand.
