Brazilian OEM gears

Post by jamesbissland »

Hi all,

Has anyone had any experience with the Brazilian made OEM gears?

The part number is 113 311 275 2

Looks to be from a VW Brasilia..

Im looking at a coarse tooth splines 3rd to replace a fine tooth in a SSC, but having some reservations..

Are they German made gears just reboxed for the Brazilian market, or do they share similar known traits to other Brazilian made VW parts?

VW of Germany stopped making Type 1 gearboxes about 40 years ago. Trans parts from Brazil are all made in Brazil.

The gear you have is a 113 type gear set. It is not a drop-in swap for the 002 type gears in your single side cover trans. It takes lathe work on the gear and the 3-4 slider hub to make it work.
If you want stock 002 type coarse tooth gears, get them from a 72-75 Bus trans. Third is easy, they are all 1.26:1. 72-74 fourth gears are all 0.82, and with the 3.88 R&P in your SSC trans, it's too tall. Best is to get the 4th gear from a 75 only. It is 0.89:1.

Interesting stuff. Always learning new things - Thanks for sharing Bruce!

So would i then be correct in saying not all late 9 tooth splined main shafts have 002 style gears?

Would you have a 3rd or .89 4th gear set you would want to sell?

Thanks again!

9 tooth splined mainshafts use 002 type gears only.

I don't build bus 'boxes, so I don't have any of those gears.
I suppose you could try Rancho for the gears.

Edit: third gear to go with the .82 fourth may be 1.22:1. You may have to get both the 3rd and 4th from the same 75 trans.
