Idle Settings/TS stepper

Post by michaellatini »

Hello All,

The pic shows arrows pointing at min max valve value steps. I have a GM IAC 4 wire valve and for a month I have been trying to find an answer to the question.

What is causing these 2 numbers to change on their own no matter what I set them too???

As I understand it they are the min and max steps the,PID can use for the valve. I set them to 45 and 237 which is the max allowed. After a drive the numbers are in the hundreds, IE 317 min 725 max most recently.

Can anybody explain this issue.

Thank you,

M

Not used closed loop yet but that looks like it should contain a percentage?

Ie what % of the max steps (which is defined above) and the min steps (home position) is the closed loop permitted to use.

From the wiki: focused on PWM but will be similar for a stepper

Valve minimum/maximum duty cycle —-
The minimum and maximum duty cycle set how much of the 0% to 100% duty cycle is available for the open-loop + closed-loop feedback control. The PWM output is limited to those values. Make sure that the values are as wide a possible so the PID controller has some room to control the idle. If these values are to strict the controller can not keep the target RPM. These values are only fail-safe values and should never be reached with a properly tuned idle control system.

Thank you, Bruce. Yes, you would think that it means % of steps but, according to Chris at Speeduino it means % for the pwm and it is actual steps for the stepper motor and not a % . So, still searching for that answer.

Here is another question without the answer being on any instructions for tunerstudio in Mega or Speeduino. On the AFR Protection tab under, Engine Protections there is a tab at the top that offers, Fixed setting or Table setting. What's the difference?

michaellatini , have you been able to see what's triggering these changes in a data log ?

Thank you for the question. I have no idea what to look for to show it triggering the numbers. I don't know what I don't know and that is probably, 99% of what's necessary for using tunerstudio.

If anyone else knows, please jump in.

Thank you,

I'd run a data log , then go back into it and in one of the screens look at those two trails of the min and max value ( % / steps). You might see it move when you're going through the log possibly ?

Does Speeduino have a forum at all ? Maybe someone will have more ideas re the GM IAC 4 wire valve ?

They do :).....

I’ve used the forum but didn’t always get the right answer ;)

I don't see those as a selection for logging.

Can you take a screenshot of your baseline “open loop” stepper settings (the graph)?
I’m wondering if your base settings are outside the range you’ve defined for the PID calc
