The exhaust is an SS BAS/Ahnendorp header and muffler-my neckmuscles hurt thinking about it(fitting it is a nightmare without a lift   )

Thanks for the compliments! 8) 8)

looks great.love how you put the stock type1 crank pulley on it.did you have to cut off the back of the pulley (where it has threads) to make it fit?

He would have had to. This mod is detailed in the the Joe Cali upright conversion book. I would show a pic of my own modded pulley if I wasn't lame and knew how to post pics on here.

You're right:I machined the back of the pulley flat and did what Nate says in 'the book':machine down the hub so it fits the centre hole of the type 1 pulley. Then drill the three holes-et voilá! :D :D

Looks great like it came from VW , I think the satin black always looks good for tinware/shrouds . It's funny that the joining flange for the top and bottom cylinder tins on a type 4 is the right height for type 1 front and rear tins.

Something that lets DTM and CSP down in my opinion is not having that flange and the lower tins to direct air to the exhaust ports .
Sharpbuilt has the flange and lower cylinder tins on both the type1 conversion and 911 shroud kits .
No matter where you go , there you are !

Hi!

After running this setup with 40mm IDF's and later with CB's Quicktune EFI it became clear that:
-CB's Quicktune leaves a lot to be desired and isn't reliable(got stranded twice for no obvious reason   )
-The Cali conversion is nice when you run carbs but not when you add EFI...there is hardly any room.

So I took the parts I gathered over the years and got to work:

The outer ring is an og Riechert ring made for type 1's(the shroud rested on the two ears you see)-got it from the Hannover swapmeet, the fan I had laying on my attic for at least 25 years and the alternator was for free(Chinese-it's probably going to leave me stranded   )
I made the shrouds from moulds I took from an autocross engine 20 years ago but had to modify them to fit with this outer ring.
The pulley carrier is adjustable in height and is guided by the big protruding block casted on the fan ring.
And as you can see I am a wizard with CAD-design

The engine now runs on an EMU Classic EFI with wasted spark ignition. After a lot of head scratching it fired up yesterday. :D :D

Cool Arnaud,
I am not a big fan of porsche fan set up, but I like the flat version.
Very nice.
Do you know your HP s?

Hi Eddie!

Nope,it's never seen a dyno, but I recon about 120Hp since the cam is quite tame.I've converted it from CB Quicktune to EMU Classic Efi while it was out so as soon as I get it running decent enough to make it to HR-engineering it will be Dynoed. I'll post the results then..

Very tidy.
Please let us know how it works out.
A huge amount of work to be sure.

Your Cali setup was so well done.
Hopefully it goes to someone who can appreciate.

Hi Clatter!

Thanks for the compliments! The fibreglassing was the hardest part because I had to redo the mould to adapt it to the different outer ring. The only thing that has me concerned now is the guide pulleys.
I gave the Cali setup to a friend as a gift:he will be using it on a 1800 he has laying around in bits.

Hi everyone!

Got the car dynoed yesterday at HR-Engineering:139Hp and 173Nm(127Ft/Lb).The horsepower surprised me,but I had hoped for more torque. As you can see on the dyno graph that it all ends at 6000Rpm:thats where the valvefloat starts and the rev limiter is set to.The curve would have continued for a few hundred of Rpm's but that would involve converting it to dual valve springs.
I'll leave it for the moment and(hopefully)enjoy it this summer.

Cheers,Arnoud
