Sounds like you may still have the classic 009 off idle stumble or similar.
Vacuum advance working properly should cure that, one can also try more initial advance and limiting the total advance by adjusting the stops. A pair of zipties in the right place can allow you to try it before bending the stops in.

Depending on the cam you can run > 20 degrees of initial.
If you have a decent sized cam with poor idle vacuum its the only way short of programmable ignition.

The gauze filters pass rocks, sand and silica fines... and wear your engine out in a fraction of the time they would last with proper filters.
K&N does sell synthetic washable dry filters that seem to work ok as filters, not sure for the Weber/Dells dual carb app.

Careful what you clean your unifilters with, apparently many common cleaners dissolve them.
Mine dissappeared using Purple Power or some such cleaner, diluted.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

The 1911 is a fun little motor to have with the type 4 configuration. When I had one in the Ghia it was fun to say the least. I will probably build another one, albeit with more CR and better parts than when I built mine back when

So I am trying a new set of slightly larger main venturies in the DRLA 36 carbs but when I slide them in, it seems like the lower edge of the venturies are too thin. Basically they fail to cover the ledge that they sit on leaving about a mm of obstruction in the path of airflow. Seems like this would cause some issues with airflow which may affect performance. The venturies came from CB Performance which may be the only shop still selling parts for these carbs.

Hey evernon I am thinking of building a 1911 for my own buggy. Mostly because I already have a lot of the parts.

Based on your experience would you recommend this engine combo?

Pic because STF!

I have been really happy with this combo. Pretty economical build except for headwork. Had Adrian in so cal build a pair of heads with larger valves.. he also assembled a short block with a performance cam. Not sure if he is still in business but he did a really great job. The other tough part of the T4 puzzle is the exhaust. I went with the ceramic tri mil which has worked well. This engine runs solid, even in cold weather, incredible torque. The new venturies and mains definitely helped with the top end. If I had a pair of 40s or 44s, it would really scream.

Adrian was the man for sure when it came to heads and work. I do wonder if he is still around.

What jets did you go with with the 32 Venturies?
