Re: ShopTalkForums Looking For New Owner
The idea of having a forum is having people (discover) come for information or to share information here. The forum I originally discovered is now long gone but fortunately I was invited over here from it by "Leather".

Start with post reply at the bottom normally found down where it says "attachments". I think in this string you can't do it.Lo Cash John wrote: ↑Wed Aug 18, 2021 10:21 amI guess I missed that... Opps!!!

You can do the options to a certain degree but the attachments part in other strings is OK but in the PM string you can do it.

Re: ShopTalkForums Looking For New Owner
As far as I know doc still is the owner.
I am too old to consider taking over (I'll be 80 in late Oct) but this is probably one of the better VW sites as there isn't much "fighting" going on... just passing info and opinions for people to consider "can I use it or not".
Also, we are seeing members now from all over the world which is even better.
I would hate to see it go away as I check in several times a day to see what is going on and can I help any... it makes my days complete.

Re: ShopTalkForums Looking For New Owner
Earlier I saw 1,000's of guests online? Wondering if that's accurate.
Yes, this is the best place for VW info. Even the off road forum has TONS of incredible information. Just wondering if there are more lurkers than we think...

Re: ShopTalkForums Looking For New Owner
I suspect that there are quite a few "lookers" that discover this site and do a bunch of info checking.
The site has always been busy then not so busy... a funny cycle. I hope this is just another cycle we are going through, and things will get busy again.
A lot of new information has been coming in lately which is good. When things get too static... then other things can get static also.

I see people asking turbo questions in Facebook groups all the time. I generally tell them to come look at the Forced Induction Forums here for the answers they seek.

Re: ShopTalkForums Looking For New Owner
After 18 years, I am stepping down as the principal at ShopTalkForums. It has been a fun and rewarding run. I am so grateful to the membership that has participated and lent support over the years. Our community is full of guys who have stepped up whenever I have asked for anything. And, as you know, the knowledge that has been willingly shared here over the years really is second to none. Participation on STF has been a daily part of my life for a long time. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Steve Wiedner (adminsteve) is STF’s new owner. Steve has been helping out behind the scenes for more than 10 years. Never asked for a reward, never said no to my request. Called me when I didn’t call him. Steve has been in the motor sports business for many years and owns his own business, S & S Aircooled Parts and Accessories in Fullerton, CA (check it out at ssaircooled.com). Steve not only brings extensive knowledge of the VW/Aircooled hobby but also excellent technical skills regarding running the website. He will make a much better admin than I ever did. I’m counting on everyone to lend Steve their full support.
I will be checking in from time to time. At almost 72, I am still pretty healthy and fooling around with old cars. The talk of no more internal combustion engines kills me. It is time for me to do a lot more fishing and playing with my grandchildren. I will still be reachable through the board and at the same contacts. I hope to see old friends at some of the shows in the future. Very best of luck to all. Thanks for a wonderful ride.

My "best" to you and your family for the future.
Thank you for your patience with all of us and willingness to keep this forum on the web and allowing for a lot of "gab" for and besides VW stuff.
"At 72" you are still a child as I turn 80 this month while I am still a child to others older than me.
"May the force be with you"

Re: ShopTalkForums Looking For New Owner
Thanks Doc,
Good afternoon members I am "AdminSteve" and I will be taking over operations of STF. I want to thank Doc for all he has done to keep this forum up and running for the last 18 years and appreciate him letting me be a part of the day to day operations. I have been a member of STF since 2004 and took on some administration roles in 2006 to help Doc keep the forums up and running as smoothly as possible. I have seen the rise and fall of a lot of "other" forums over the years and STF has had a great group of members that have built the STF into what it is today.
As Doc mentioned above I have been in the VW industry since the early 80's and have worked for a couple of past and present shops. I currently own and operate a VW shop in SoCal. Besides being addicted to VWs I am a tech geek that was also an Admin/Mod of a couple of other forums before said forums were snatched up by larger corps that were only interested in the revenue the forums could generate. Which brings me to the future of STF
The future of STF is simple, I intend to keep the STF operating as is. Besides moving the forum to my personal servers there are no plans to change the day to day operations outside of a few upgrades to the base software. Future changes are possible and will be addressed once all the change over has been completed. All questions and concerns are welcome and I will answer them as transparently as possible. I may own the STF but the forums are nothing without its members and I appreciate each and every one of you.

Doc - My personal "Thank You" to you for hosting and maintaining STF for all these years. I've been a member here for >20 years (joining shortly after purchasing my first ACVW) and have found the site, people, and knowledge shared immeasurable in my air-cooled journey. Best wishes to you and yours.
AdminSteve - My personal "Thank You" to you for your support of STF and Doc, and appreciation for you 'taking the reigns' and keeping STF up and moving forward.
