It’s installed on a 2.0 L boxer engine so you should expect the same characteristics as the oem install.
It’s a great turbo and I’ve been using it for probably 5 plus years.
Boost should come on around 2400 rpm possibly a little earlier....
Great to hear Clonebug! What cam and heads are you running, what RPM range is your engine using?
W-100 cam and DRD 40 X 37.5mm heads.
I upgraded the rockers to 1.25 which measure out at 1.38 and installed CB 650 outer springs. I'm getting about .526" lift.
I usually shift between 5200-5500 but have gone as high as 5800 rpm.
Turbo starts boost at 2400 and hits 23 lbs. at about 3800-4000 rpm.
That cam is very close to the Webcan 86 I was planning on running Clonebug. Either that or the Raby 9600 that I also have. My heads are the Porsche 914 2.0 3 stud intake and have almost the same valve sizes as well. I think that mine is going to have a very simular performance curve, thanks for the data! BTW I followed your buggy thread. Went back to try and read up on it again and WOW, 209 pages! Very good writeup all the way though though.
Thanks Cobrajet.
It was built to be a driver and has proved itself over time. Bang for the buck stock heads will do fine on the smaller engines. The DRD heads have their own story to tell but other heads have their issues too so you take your chances.
Your stock sized heads will be fine......If you want a race car maybe not but for a driver you want it to be reasonable and high lift aggressive cams are just going to be more maintenance and/or trouble.
A driver needs lower to midrange torque and power for drivability. I shift at 3000 rpm most times and it drives just fine.....if I need a slight more ump I just extend my shift to 3500 and it's at the instaboost zone.
If I do it over again and keep a small engine I would find a cam that used 1.4 rockers and gave around .500" lift with a max of 290 duration. Duration is going to allow more time to cram air/fuel in the chamber.
I thought about building a bigger engine but then it's just another big engine with a turbo.......there is something about a small engine kicking butt on all the big strokers and driving anywhere to do it.
I have learned a lot in the 7 years of dinking with this combo.......is it perfect???? Not at all but I really enjoy it and best of all my Wife enjoys going with on drives to anywhere.
California is on the schedule again for next July.
