Blow through 1776

Post by AdamStrahan51 »

Built my first turbo motor -1776
Scat crank
Engle tcs10 cam
CB 5.5 uni rods
Ponchito heads (single spring)
Magnaspark
Single 40 idf
CB Black box
CB Super stock rockers
8.4 cr
38mm turbosmart wastegate 7lb spring
T3/t4 (58 stamped on hot side)eBay turbo (should have bought a smaller one) Don’t really know the exact specs

I fired it up today for the first time, it idled ok. Broke the cam in, and tried backing it out of the driveway and it wanted to die under load. Swapped out the “turbo” emulsion tubes and removed the mod rings. It ran better, I guess my question would be about my jetting. And the timing map I’ve got the 10lb map loaded and my Jetting is
F11 emulsion
115 main
200 air and
50 idle
Is this a good starting point for the jetting?
Should I load the NA map till I buy a smaller turbo?

I would say that its on the way lean side. To be honest I haven't used or tuned a single idf but even with duals where one carb is feeding 2 cyl it would sound on the lean side now your wanting it to do double the work. Do you have access to other jets or jet drills?

Boost reference the fuel pressure Regulator?
Jetting is lean
Get a wide band or you'll be chasing your tail

Holly red, with holly boost sensitive pressure regulator. I’m planning on picking up some jets. Any suggestions on a starting point?

I second that, get a wide band a/f gauge if you dont have one forced induction is not something to guess at with fueling needs

I have used aem in the past and it worked well bit seemed to go thru oxygen sensors fairly quickly. I now have a plx multi gauge and its working great so far and has nice features

I have a PLX bluetooth and it was fine after I switched to resistance plugs.

I would imagine you are lean, very lean, like "do not apply boost at all" lean.

As a comparison, Im running dual 40's with the following jets:

Turbo emusions
32 vents
29mm mod rings
130 main
175 air
52 idle
2GPH 50/50 Alchohol injection.

At 15 psi this is giving me 11.8ish AFR. At 10psi I was getting 11.4ish afr with the only change being a 185 air jet.

Keep us posted. Nice progress. Your way ahead of me. I’m doing a single dellorto.

For sure, I should be able to make it to carcraft tomorrow and at least get some jets. What are you going to use as the carb pressure cover on your dellorto?

Man I'm glad I don't live near those places. I'd be so poor if I could just drive over and get stuff!

Hahaha, it’s easy to do, that’s why I work 100 miles in the opposite direction from them, I REALLY have to need something, or have the day off (on call 24-7 helps save) in this case I’m not going to pay $12 for shipping on 4 jets plus I need a few other odds and ends, impulse buying is easier in person
