Finally got it running:2.0Ltr Type4

Post by Arnoud »

Hi there!

After many years of dreaming and collecting parts,starting-not continuing-starting over and then now finally getting it running(-ish).
Its a 2.0Ltr type 4 with 94mm AA flat-top pistons,a 71mm stock crank, and stock balanced rods. The original bus case was warped and replaced by CA-code case that was linebored 0.5mm over and shufflepinned by Kummetat(shufflepins-or sleeves-are tapered).Balancing of the crankassembly and final casework was done by EnginePlus.
The heads are ovalport ,crackfree 2.0Ltr bus that now have 41X34mm valves and are ported and flycut-all done by by Udo Becker.
Cam is a 86A Web,lifters are 82 Gram supplied by Orratech-they also supplied the single HD-springs and the 30mm oilpump.
Exhaust is a BAS-Ahnendorp SS with no heaterboxes.Carbs are 40mm IDF13&15's(from a FIAT and NOT the ideal choice..)with 32mm vents.
Ignition is a basemodel 123 Vacuüm on the 009 setting with the hose not connected.
As you can see I did a Cali-conversion including all surround-sheetmetal.I incorporated the coil-mounting in the alternator/generatorstand.
I made a oilcooler bracket-prototype,which a friend of mine had copied by a few students of him.
After the cam-break in procedure(which cost me a few years of my life   )I'm now juggling jets in an attempt to get this puppy
running like it should.
Looking forward to your replies!

Cheers,Arnoud

Hi
How did you get your oil lines so neat! How do you connect the cooler bracket?

The oilcooler-bracket is bolted to the fanshroud through two drilled holes. The bolts fit in the two standoff-rods you see in the picture.
I'll be wrenching tomorrow and will take somewhat detailed pictures tomorrow. It's bedtime for me now.

Ah, the pic showed as broken link - now I see the oil cooler bracket pic.

Where’d you get the bracket?

Cool, Arnoud looks good.
Love the surrounding plating, very nice.
I going to ask how you made it.

Hi Eddie!

I'm going to have to reactivate my old cellphone to see if have some more detailed pictures of the surrounding sheetmetal.
What I can say is that the tins near the manifolds have to be removed to get the manifolds(and the engine for that matter)out.
In a previous life I was a fabricator so welding is not a problem, although getting the BAS exhaust on had me getting in touch with an old colleague with an TIG-welder..
I'll see if I can dig up some pictures.

Cheers,

Arnoud

Looks good, very similar tin work to the one I am getting close to completing, would like to see some pics of how you did the exhaust on it.
