HELP blowing oil, looking for reassurance

Post by i_am_cool_fred »

I mainly lurk on here but am looking for reassurance on my diagnosis.
Here's the specs of the motor:
2316cc
drd racing L5 heads
96mm KB pistons w/ stock cylinders cut to fit
web cam 163/86b grind
dpr 80mm counterbalanced crank
9.8:1 compression

with that out of the way, here's what's happening. 15 miles tops onmotor, cyl #2 is blowing oil out the exhaust i bought my heads, and they came in like a month before DRD vanished. I started doing alot of research on issues folks were having guide issues. I have curretly got the motor back out...I see no oil on the intake valve or guide, it is clean. oil is dripping out of cyl 2 exhaust tube after removal of collecotr. spark plug was oil soaked as well. that cylinder has 150psi compression when cranked hot (didn't check it cold). It has been suggested that eve though it has great compression an oil ring could be bad....I plan on tearing it down to that point tomorrow, but am basically looking for reassurance that if there is no oil on the intake guide/valve then that's gotta be what it is. i was hoping i'd just see dripping oil on the intake and boom it's obvious. still hoping it'll be obvious on the oil rings.

am open to any other suggestions of what it could be as well. just number 2 is doing it. verified fuel floats, etc. thinking maybe a high float but doesn't smell like gas, defintely oil.

what can i look for on the oil rings?

Let us know what you find when you pull the piston.

Sounds like it will be obvious once you get it apart.

Did you pull the valves on the bad hole and inspect guides, etc?

A wet/dry leak down would have told you without disassembly FWIW..

Wet dry leak down???? Please, tell me more. I tried researching how to solve the problem without tear down and couldn’t find a thing.

Head comes off shortly

If you don't do a leakdown test before taking it apart you'll be guessing as to what the problem is.

Compressed air coming from the intake manifold--intake valve.
Compressed air coming from the exhaust--exhaust valve.
Compressed air coming from the case/breather--cylinder ring.
