Crank trigger ignition

With Turbo and Super charging you can create massive horsepower with vw motors.

Heck I may order that microsquirt myself.

Mario do you have any baseline tunes you could pre load for a bigger turbo motor to at least be in the ball park to start with?

I will have the above without the optional extra's.
Please note I'm in the UK with regards to postage fees .

Great! I look forward to it :) Right now my site has the complete packages, I'm going to work on setting it up for the options.

I would love that  With these packages, I do load a base tune onto the Microsquirt. I would need to know how much boost you will be running and the amount of timing you would like to pull. They are not meant to be forever settings, just to get you started and up and running as quick as possible.

Yup picked up 42mm MPH throttle bodies a 36-1 crank trigger and serpentine belt from VWspeed shop. Then a ms3pro ecu all sensors a harness and base tune from Mario Then we were cooking with gas and having a ton of fun in the baja Try it you'l like it

Mario on my motor, I'm always looking to increase boost so the kit needs to be good past 2 bar. I'm not there yet by a long shot but this is my goal.
A base tune for would be something like
16 degree at idle
28 degree full at no boost
Then from 28 degree down to 18 degree at full boost.
I think with this if the engine don't like the above it must be low octane or need more static comp taking out of it.
As I wrote earlier my motor doesn't like big timing and boost ,It was hot this summer so that must contribute a lot to the ping issue. Probably hot cylinder heads.

I'll probably have to tweak the snot out of the table to get the engine to behave itself.
Fuel injection WILL be added later. This will enable me to refit the engine lid as at the moment the lid wont fit cause the carb is in the way.

Map sensor will be 3bar, that's no problem. I usually keep the idle timing at 10 to start, but if you currently use 16, I can do that no problem :)

I bet is just doesn't like the timing coming into peak cylinder pressure. The beauty of going electronic is that you can lower the timing in this area and then ramp it right back up to still achieve peak power

I like it.

Thinking about how it runs here.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
I'm thinking the boost on my engine RISES faster than the timing retards. The ECU will retard the timing faster than with the vac canned dizzy and so will suppress the ping better, plus I'll also be able to lower the timing at certain load points on the engine. I can see my MAP numbers once its dialed in possibly looking different to the norm. This is the thing with turbo tuning you have to give the engine the tune IT wants not what the tuner thinks IT needs. With a dual vac dizzy there isn't any way of doing any fine adjustments. That's why my dated locked dizzy with just a retard
mechanism is the only way I can get the engine to sort of behave itself. Its locked advance then retards under boost.Just not at the right time.
I use the 16 degree idle due to the low static comp and high (ish) duration cam ,think its 286 on a web 86A.

Hi Guys/Mario. I want to ask a few questions about the micro squirt kit I'm going to purchase off Mario.
1 thing us v dubber's like is a massive spark at the plug. A big spark is beneficial to our motors, there must be a limit to how hot a spark needs to be with these turbo motors,or is it a case of the more boost/fuel you use the more powerful a spark is needed. To me an MSD size spark is what I would like to see. Is the ign4 coil that's on my parts list on page 1 a big power coil/hot enough for all the boost that a motor can take.
Also, is it mostly a plug together kind of thing, do I get easy to follow instructions.
I'll have other questions as they come to me.
Thanks.

Also as I'm moving on from basic points, I take it you cant start pulling plug leads while the engine is running to check which cylinder is down ,which is what I do with the standard set up.
On the list ,all looks good, but if I can upgrade anything I will. The cam sync looks tasty. Is this something the micro squirt kit can use and will my motor benefit from it.

The ign4 coil has more than enough spark to do what we ask, with or without boost. And you can still pull plug wires for diagnostic purposes, it just hurts more than a standard coil when it hits you

Ok thanks, what about the mini sync. Is it a good addition to the kit

If you are planning on going sequential fuel and spark then you would need a Mini Cam syc.

If you get a Mini Cam Syc you need to get 4 individual coils like the LS-2 Coils from a GM Truck engine.
You need four coil drivers in the ECU.
You also need four injector drivers for "per cylinder" firing

If you go that far you also need four O2 sensors in order to tune each cylinder individually.

Not quite true, but this can help to seriously optimize. I know of about 3 of us in the online vw world with per cylinder widebands, and I'm the only one with a turbo. Mario has sold A LOT more than 3 Mini Cam Syncs. You need a pretty special setup to run 4 widebands between your exhaust port and your turbo charger. You can't just run an lc2 and call it good. Widebands don't handle exhaust pressure very well, and start reading stupid.

Sequential is nice for those of us that want to run huge injectors on small engines and drive on the street. My car needs to idle like a normal car, not at 2000rpm like a racecar, it needs to cruise at low speeds. Its times like this where real control of your injectors can make a difference. That said. I know plenty of racecars running batch systems that are way faster than mine!

So how do you tune per cylinder if you don't know the afr???? I guess EGT would possibly work......
Although wasted spark has worked great for me but then maybe my engine isn't tuned that well either...
