1600cc Supercharger MPG?

Post by vwjim »

I've tried the search function but couldn't find an answer, what's the expected MPG from a supercharged 1600cc?

A mate has one that is barely getting 16 MPG and he's not driving it hard. Its using a draw through carb.

Does he have a wideband O2 sensor on it?

On my 1600 when I first got it going with a single kadron it only got about 13-15 mpg, I went up and down with idle and main jets(I have a wideband to tune) and got it running sweet for wide open throttle. Cruising it on the other hand it would max out my gauge to full rich(I didn't want to drill my air corrector jet since the carb was from a pair) I the switched to a Rochester 1bbl off of a 250 chev straight 6, opened the only jet it had one size and it gave the perfect amount of fuel at wot and on cruise it leaned out just right, ran cool, and brought me back up to 25-27 mph. What distributor is being ran on the motor?ImageImage

Thanks for the quick replies.

He doesn't have a lambda, a rolling road set it up, but the exhaust colour is really black.

He's running a side draft Chinese copy of the Weber.
Dizzy is the 1-2-3 unit.

That's a cool looking dizzy I had never heard of them before:) I was going to say if you had a 009 I saw a big improvement going to a 034, I then put a vac adv can off of a turbo Saab, I didn't see much improvement but it does have the capability to have boost retard now

That side draft "should" be tunable I've heard of a few bad cases and good cases with the knock off carbs. I've found with the Chinese carbs(along with any engine part from china) is to completely tear it apart and examine, clean and blow every passage, and make sure everything seats properly and nothing binds. I would personally install an o2 gauge, make sure the timing is set properly and limited, then start playing with jets. Also unless your friend has jets already I would recommend a jet drill kit they are cheap and once you get it dialed in the proper jets can be purchased if one so desires

Cheers.

The 123 dizzy is quite common over here. They have programmable timing, Bluetooth to your phone as a rev counter / oil temp gauge / vac+boost gauge. So they're quite clever.

Thanks for the advice

So approx 24 MPG. Much better efficiency.

Thanks
