1970 Ignition Issue

Post by SpyderMike »

Well I troubleshot down to the middle portion of the ignition switch. The problem is not in the key tumbler (when removed it works fine). Nor is there anything wrong with the electrical switch portion. My problem is that the plunger that locks the steering wheel and the mechanism inside the switch assembly (the middle portion of the assembly) hangs up - sometimes it won't turn, sometimes it won't release my kwy, and sometimes it works like butter. I don't mind the butter part, but hte other two situations suck.

Where can I get one of these goodies? Or has nayone fixed this part before?

Im not sure if you can get that piece anymore. I know i have looked for it quite a bit lately since my bus steering locked up.
I was going to check with this shop to see if they could repair mine.

Gabriel's VW Garage & Locksmith
828 Princeton St.
Stockton, CA 95204
(209) 462-2851

They were featured in vwtrends for being able rekey and repair vw locks.

good luck
