I have recently finished two 69bus engines. One receaved a 2276 blow thru turbo, and the other a 2387 asperated motor. I have been looking at installing the power assist to help the buses to slow down. Has anyone tried and could you share any help. The cost of the wide 5 bus disc brakes leaves lots of room for this to be a possibility. Thanx

It should be easy to add on a '69. You just need a vacuum line from the intake manifold (with some check valve) to the front and a power booster thing in the front (easy to junk yard for).
Should be straight forward.

I understand the ease of the vacume line & check valve, what I'm unsure of is that the later buses with power assist has the bracket on the beam, I figur I can weld one onto the early bus beams (is there any interfearenc problems?) I am also concerned with perportioning, has anyone tried or sucsefully done this? thanx for any help.

It has been a while since I took apart a vacuum assembly but I could swear that the vacuum diaphram just hooks in-line before the MC and attaches to the same brackets just with longer bolts. You might have to bend the lines to match better though.
Also as long as you stay with all drums brakes the stock MC will be fine and no proportioning needed. If you switch to a later disc/drum MC then you will have problems.
I guess the only way to really find out is crawl under a few busses.
Good Luck,

fish,
you are correct about the beam, it is different for non-power assist busses.
the power assist busses also have a brake proportioning valve hooked up in line with the rear brake lines. i do not know if other busses have this, i am only familiar with late bays. you could likely use the master/servo/prop valve complete, with mods to the beam. i might be easier to change the whole beam, though. does a 69 have disks or drums up front?

That started in '71 with the disc brakes and vacuum assist.
