Joxracing's 1966 Baja "The Resurection"

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

Ha! Ive been busy man. About to graduate college this december, bought a house, etc etc.

The baja bug still sits neglected at my parents place. Ive been so busy building our race program I havent had the time or money to even drag it to the new house/garage. Ill have to post some pictures up of the new truck (s) we'be bought and been building/racing since Ive last logged in.

Update! Wow, I started this thread 14 years ago. Reading through it makes me a lot nostalgic, and a little bit embarrassed. It's fun & a little scary to see what I was like when I was 14 years old trying to figure out a VW. It doesn't seem like that long ago.

And its been 6 years since I've dropped by! Absolutely insane how fast time goes. I figured I would stop by and give a little life update. I still have that little red baja bug, and it still sits in the exact same place I parked it in 2012, 10 years ago.

Last time I updated, we were building our first short course off-road race truck. Even that seems like forever ago. That truck was sold and we moved up to the Super Stock Truck class in 2016 and we've been racing in that class off and on since.

In 2021, we decided to give ARA stage rally a shot. I bought a car out of Colorado in 2020, prepped it and went racing at LSPR in our hometown of Marquette Mi in 2021. What an event that was. We're hooked and will more than likely be transitioning out of short course and running more stage rally events

I graduated college in 2016, worked that paper mill life for a few years and in 2021, my father and I went in to business together. We purchased Lake Superior Press, a company my father had worked for for 32 years. Its a commercial printing firm, where we handle graphic design, printing, advertising, etc. We have both digital and offset presses, and its been a lot of work, but a ton of fun. Here's our shop in the two seasons we have up here, winter and summer.

Last summer my fiancé and I broke ground on our new shop house build. We should be moving in in the next few months and are super stoked to be finally living on our 60 acres and having a nice heated shop to work on our projects.

I am still messing with old VW's though. During the pandemic, I picked up this rough 74 VW Thing with the stimulus money we received. Fully gov funded, lol. New brakes, pans, motor and tires we've been cruising the hell out of it. Its a hit around town. My fiancé has a serious International addiction, and we've been picking up as many Scouts and Travelalls as we can get our hands on. Still tinkering around with old Ford trucks as well. Our shop is going to be quite full shortly.

One of the first projects in the shop will be my '66. My plan is a full restoration back to a reliable cruiser. Im super excited to get working on it, and will for sure pop in and update this thread. It's wild to see how much time has passed since I bought that car, its for sure time to give it the love it deserves.

Time flies to say the least!

I am going to participate in some rally cross racing this summer with my son. The track (two actually) are near Ardmore, Oklahoma and the promoter is from the D/FW area.
