STF GTG-Elko to Bodie Adventure October 6-10 2016

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

I really enjoyed getting to drive your car for about 100 miles. Thanks!

Your very welcome and I am glad you did as the car will be getting a few changes and you will be helping me evaluate the changes in the future. Maybe this spring we can get both our cars out together and test them with something to compare to :D

Just the passenger seat would do. Unless Ed is going to wear one for a change.

LOL I will and I do use them when my wife is in the car. I am thinking of some modern retracting type. I need a closer Pick N Pull.

Just finished watching the last three.....

Is the Howard Hughes story true?

And Elko Ed was right.. Nevada has a lot of rocks!

The one before it was definitely true.

Herbie I did not find him but someone did they say. He would fly into a cat house named the Cottontail ranch at a place called Lida Junction in his privet plane and spend a few days at a time. Lida Junction is about 50 miles north of Beatty (where I lived) so the story was told often. It happened in 1967 and I did not move to Beatty until 1969 but everybody heard the story about the guy finding him and taking him to Vegas.

The truest part of those stories is in 73-74 I would drive my 67 Camero on the Monitor Valley road, the raod that Belmont is on and Dianna's punch bowl and Potts are off of a lot and at around 80mph. My mom and dad seemed to move alot, when dad worked at the test sight we lived in Vegas, Beatty Vegas, Cal for a short and back to Beatty in 69. Well in 73 my dads job ended and they moved to Elko and I stayed in Beatty but they moved. 73-74 was my senior in high school along with 7 other class mates so I wanted to stay there and graduate there so we all agreed that I would stay with one of dads coworkers that stayed in Beatty. I would drive to Elko a couple times a month to see them and then they put in the 55 speed limit so I would get off the pavement and drive the dirt to make time, this part is true.

Edit Herbie when I got my drivers license, Nevada had unlimited speed limit and I lived in Baetty and everything was a 100 miles away sort of so we all drove a 100 mph or what ever your car would like to go back then. When they put in the 55 crap I got a lot of tickets for some reason LOL.

Herbie, if you would like to bring your car to the next adventure, I have a license plate and registration, current and all fees paid, for a bug that you could borrow.
On the EBA we saw zero cops and as you know we also saw zero cops on the GCA. I expect the next adventure will be the same.

Near the creepy road Patrick did talk to someone of authority, even if vaguely so, that told us to slow down. My license plate was covered in mud the whole time and I accidentally rubbed off the renewal sticker with acetone.

I was riding with patrick when that guy waved us down. He pulled out his wallet and flashed a card, not a badge, said he was going to get his ticket book if we didnt slow down. I dont know what he was, but that is as close as we got to seeing anyone of authority.
