Weird Knocking in back....???

I recently got this weird knocking sound in the back of my bus...it seemed to start a few days ago then went away...it also seems to come when im on a slight bumpy road...then goes away when im accelerating..but as soon as I slow down and put it out of gear..the knocking sound comes back...and it seems to be cosistant with the speed im traveling...so when im slowing down...the knocking slows down till I stop...then the knocking stops..know it wont go away..its a low pitch knock also...I believe its the CV joints, wearing out, in the rear..but if any knows what else it may be..let me know...

Eek ! STOP and pull those C.V.joints before one lets go and send your bus to the junkyard and _you_ to the morgue . it's a simple job , expect to need at least one joint , use any old ones you get from junkyard , just match the P/N and clean it really well before re-packing with molybium grease . I get old half shafts for $20.00 @ Pick-A-Part , if I get one good joint I'm happy . buy new boots as needed before you take it apart . clean the screw heads out before stripping them , it's easier thata way . tourque to 32 foot pounds .

Pay close attention to how it comes apart ! .

Well...I replaced the CVs and shafts in my '70 bus...and there is still a knocking in the back!..Oh well..im sure it needed new CVs anyways. SO what else could it be....someone said it may be the shocks..could it also be the wheel bearings???? I noticed it mainly occurs after I hit a slighty bumpy road...my bus is lowered...so maybe it is the shocks...Also ..above 50mph...in 4th gear..the whole bus humms...like vibrates... Anyone got a clue to this mystery????

well...I finally figured it out!..a few days after replacing the CVs the knocking went away...but the humm was still there....in the process of going to replace my rear wheel bearings..I noticed the costellating nut on my drum was loose..the cotter pin got loose some how...it was so loose that i was able to take the nut off with my hands...after removing the axle shaft i noticed heat marks where the outer bearing goes...so i replaced that bearing ...the other one looked fine..there were metal shavings inside the drum...the spacer was rubbing the drum...which was causing the humming..So to make a long story short...check your wheels before u do anything else! Now she runs like a champ..Im going to check and repack the other side to..so now my rear has a good 20+ years to go!
