Door seems too big

Post by Baja_vdub »

Ive always had tons of door sag but with a little lift or hard slam it would close. Well the other night i did this. Image

And now the door wont close at all it looks like the door is too big now. It hits the striker. There are no shims behind any of the hinges and yes plenty of cracks behind lower hinge

Looks like a little body sag, did you have that jack stand bracing the edge of the chassis or was the stand supporting any weight while you made the repairs?

Stand is there for an unrelated reason. No stand used.

Kind of what I thought may have happened. I was taught that if one corner was jacked up then all four needs to be otherwise you have the potential of distorsion from the pan temperally warping up in the one corner. Since you welded on the body, part of the pan support, check to see if that side of the pan now sits high with the body holding it in place. I hope not but it would be a good idea to check for it.

Remember, this is a bolted together unibody not a welded together style of unibody so the game is changed a bit.

You need to measure the openings then. Maybe something moved, it does happen. Also the front lower pillar looks like it needs work too.

ive experienced this to a lesser degree. it was caused by jacking up one corner of my car and finding out my left or right door binds when I close it. what I thought was the body twisted ever so slightly. what I did was jack up the other side in the same place until the door closes normally again. I did it a little at a time. when I let it down my door closes better. yours is off much further. I suspect a similar issue only if your hinges or door is not actually bent.
