Going to try something new...

Post by luftvagon »

I decided to re-tune my fuel map (type4 CV motor), and completely mimic the L-Jetronic AFM spring, with a slight twist. I am not necessarily thrilled with a (static) VE tuned at 15.2 AFR around 3000+ RPM. It was an obvious hole in my fuel map, and as you get into it, you could feel the power loss. It was great for cruising on the interstate, but not so much for the daily grind; or stop and go traffic.

Instead, this time around, I re-tuned the fuel map under 89kPa to 13.9 AFR from 800-6500 RPM. Once 100% satisfied with the fuel map, I am going to enable EGO control, and establish efficiency zones with 15.2-15.5 AFR, and maybe some 14.7. My estimate of the (federal) L-Jetronic range is 12.9 at full load to 13.5 AFR at idle with proper idle screw adjustment leaning it to 14.2 AFR. For me, once the engine temperature reaches ~160F, the EGO will kick the idle up to 14.2 AFR, which should lower the RPM in turn. Maybe this will allow me to open the TB screw just a bit more to compensate for 5/16" fast idle valve.

I think this is also going help with cold drive-offs, as the AFR gap will be lower, and maybe let me run less WUE?

What could possibly go wrong :D Looking forward to an update, myself.
