Hi,
If i have posted in the wrong place please let me know.
Im in the United kingdom and there are no places near me that can align bore vw cases, I have been looking for quite sometime for a trulign bar to come up forsale or any vw bar that is still in useable condition for sale.
Im after some pictures if i could of any of the bars out there as ive heard people are making there own and thats kind of the route i want to go down now. Ive got a engineering shop close to me, My dad has been friends with for many years.
And they have agreed to make me one as well as a dowel pin fixture for the cases.
I just need some accurate pictures if i could of the feed drive, size of the bar and as many pictures possible of the bar it's self.
Kind Regards
Luke

Re: Some boring bar questions
i am in italy and collected in the years some bars. i use with success the earlier Vw 700. i have bought also a ML-99 and completed with 4 series of cutters, the bar had new bushings and new oil seals maybe i can sell it since i never use it. i prefer the other type that has each bar with dedicated cutters. let me know.
building yourself is also an option. you need a goor ground bar, and have the centerc anhe holders built. you can drive it also with a little size lathe.

I was looking to have the bar driven by a drill or something handheld like most of the other bars out there?
cheers Luke

Re: Some boring bar questions
the vw700 works also with handle... no need of fast drill but you can, it depends on the feed relation to speed and shape of the cutter.
i believe you need to find a GOOD straight bar, of a standard diameter and then adapt some sort of feed (vw 700 and truline external ones are both good, and then having made the cutter holders. Nsracing a know machinist that write here and on TS can make them for you. we spoke about same thing some time ago.

Re: Some boring bar questions
I have an extra Truline bar and feed I am willing to part w/. I also have the micrometer tools to adjust to whatever bore you need.
Finding a good feeding unit is hard. The TruLine feed unit is the best I have seen of any design. It cuts clean and true coz of its leadscrew. Unlike the hydraulic feed ones that jump during a cut. The TruLIne is the way to go.
Glad to sell you the unit if interested./ The TruLines are hard to come by now... I sold a complete set to a guy in South Africa not long ago - and he pestered me for about a year until I finally gave in. LOL.
I do not have any other spare other than the one bar and feed + the 2 micrometer tools.
Peace.

Hi,
Is it possible for me to get some detailed pictures of peoples boring bars and the cutters aswell as the thrust cutter and where the thrust cutter is positioned on the bar?
Kind regards
Luke
