Single throttle body injection

Post by hscess »

I see very little on single throttle body injection on these forums for NA VW. Can single throttle body make as much HP, providing the right plenum and injectors compared to the dual throttle bodies on the Type 1 VW? If the single throttle body will make a much HP, can it be very street able? I am a pretty good fabricator and can not see why it wouldn't work. I am building a 2387 motor with supper pro heads and a CB-2300 cam shaft. I know this cam is big and will have very little vacuum. I was thinking a throttle body some where between 50 mm and 65 mm. It just seems to be a lot easier setup. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

I am thinking NA not turbo.

There is info here, but most single TB setups are FI. The vw engine and cooling arrangement is probably the biggest hinderance in making a proper single throttle body and plenum setup work well NA.

I run a single 50mm tb, boost, and a big cam. Mine is intercooled post tb, and has dual plenums mounted on top of idf pattern efi manifolds. It doesn't pull a lot of vacuum at idle, around 10kpa below ambient is all it gives me. The car is a little high strung, but i daily drive it when the weather is nice, around town and on the freeway. The only unstreetable aspect is the power, it made 236whp at 8.5psi, before 6000rpm. This was a baseline pull, it will definitely make more. Its pretty hard to find many streets in my area that can really take advatange of that kind of power in a bug.
Single TBs work nicely. go big or go home doesn't apply here. Size it appropriately, and you'll have a yhrottle plate that actually meters the air going into your engine. Unlike big dual throats.
