Wolfsburg Crest on steering column

Post by BugUgly »

An acquaintance that works for VW Credit asked me about the Wolfsburg crest on the steering column of my 67. They all had this, yes?

I've never seen a (`56-`71) Beetle that didn't, although I suppose it's possible that a "Standard" model made for the home market could've had a cheaper black button than they put on the "Export" cars.

what marc said, all the deluxe/export beetles had them, but the standard/1200A (111) never did, up until 66 they had the very rustic 3-spoke steering wheel as here

but it seems in 67 they went to a different 2-spoke wheel, still with just a black horn button, this one I've seen many times, they were used in 1200 beetles all the way up to the end of german production (it seems to me like in Europe they sold lots more of 111s during the 70s than before, guess it was the oil crisis)

I assume the only way you'd find one of these in the states would be a canadian-spec standard
