phoenix geared 6-rib
Looking for more info on ERCO made phoenix gear set. I can't find a whole lot about them in google searches and only saw that they where used in drag racing with the whole "top of the line" vibe in related build articles. I got a build sheet with the gear ratio and did a borescope inspection of the gears in the case to make sure I got what I paid for but I really don't know what to look for. I have the one piece main shaft, super diff, German bearings and all the gears look perfect. The case is gusseted and had traces of oil that I believe was royal purple. The end of the input shaft had a few numbers in two groups stamped into it but they looked hand punched and not production line if that sounds right. I'm no machinist but everything inside looks built to a degree better than an old stock trans I have taken apart. Any facts and any knowledge of what this trans could hold torque wise to would be appreciated.

ERCO's (some were marked Phoenix) gears were made by Ivan Albins of Ballarat, Austrailia. This is the same company that manufactures the Weddle/WP gears. These gears were previously sold in the U.S. by Paul Gard ~20 years ago, and in other parts of the world under the Elephant label. Usually the numbers stamped on the mainshaft between 1st and 2nd were the ratios and sometimes production date. Eric Ballard (ERCO) stopped importing Albins gears in 2004 leaving Weddle the main importer for them. Albins is the main source for aftermarket 091 gears. Eric Ballard is not into the internet and has never had a website or email. Eric's phone # is 951-689-4327 and is still in business.

Phoenix Gears were symbolically "from the ashes" of Elephant Gears. Elephant Gears were early, poorly heat-treated Albins gears. (Actually Elephant Gears were the first gears ever made by Albins)

Were the ones with the "arrow" embossed them from the same company?

the ones with the arrow were "Arrow Gears", also known as "Gem Gears", Gene Berg gears, Ken Fox fits in here too. Made in USA, the haven't been manufactured in the last few years.

Just an update. I had my transmission serviced to switch out the 4th gear and found out all the gear sets had (WP) Weddle Pro stamped into them. "justkenny" was spot on.
