Thanks piledriver. I'll have a read. Just screwed in the recommended 3/4" reach plug as I had one. And it sticks out a fair bit. Is this normal? The spec says it needs a long yeah plug. But this is a little too long reach surely?

That is quite a bit of protrusion even with un blended chambers. After cleaning things up you will have even more stick out.

Jegs / Summit sell plug washer index kits. They can be used to space the plugs out and away from the head to get proper seating depth.

Believe it or not, that is OK-- as long as no threads or sharp edges are exposed.

They make/sell copper washers for indexing etc if needed.
(ha, Steve/s saying the same thing)
If you put a TC under it etc... no issues.

Don't forget the Milk of Magnesia.

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

I want a set of annular pressure sensor washers to fill that space. (just not for $1K each)
I'd love to see if I could use them withe the knock sensor setup, and get pressure data out as well.

The Milk of Magnesia trick is one Jake Raby shared with us awhile back.

Old jet engine trick, works very well on aluminum or mag, and does not hurt thermal transfer.
(I'm sure they use a MIL or FAA approved version of MoM on actual aircraft)

"Milk of Magnesia is Magnesium Hydroxide. It dries to a white powder and effective as an anti sieze (sic) in extreme heat applications, several hundred hours at 1200F.

Milk of Magnesia is used in the Air Force on jet engines. It is on the recommended products list for the installation of the igniter plugs in the main burner and afterburner sections of the General Electric J79, F101, F110 etc (sic) turbojet engines.

Engine Shop Manual chapter 72-55-05 paragraph 2B specifically (sic) calls for Milk of Magnesia item #C02-061.

C02-061 is listed here in the consumable products list for GE's Commercial Engine Standard Practices Manual on page 11:
http://atcspro.com/Tradewinds/GE%20S...02-015-all.pdf" From one of the motorcycle sites.

"One reason Magnesium Hydroxide is used on jet engine igniters is that it is electrically conductive." (from the Home Machinist web side)

I have received emails about this before also.

That should be in a sticky (if it isn't)

It did sound a bit like I was sending him off to buy a roll of flightline.

Just use regular anti seize and don't use too much (none on the business end of the plug!). The horror stories are over blown.

Don't bother with the cheap anti acid either, the Rantadin that larry the cable guy pimps is so much better than MOM. Trust me...

For spark plugs or for tummies?

The MoM is conductive, electrically and thermally.
I like that on spark plugs. Comes in Mint as well.
