First mockup of my home built setup using a Porsche fan

It may look rough on the outside but it pop'ed smooth as glass. Im thinking about doing some CF ones

I have these two Reichert set ups and have wanted to do a gear drive also to do away with the belt, and the 90 deg drive from an out board is a good idea, but I have been looking for a 90 deg drive from a motorcycle which is smaller and I think can be modified to fit in place of the pulleys, like from a BMW. I always check the motocycle row at the junk yards looking for the drive, it's only a matter of time till I find one. I have put a hold on working on my 914, I have back slid and have gone back to American Muscle...Frallan2 wrote:There is this very professional Porsche tuner in Sweden (ex ACVW guy) Micke Svens who did his own version on a 911 and if I am not wrong from the pictures I saw he used the gear drive from an outboard boat engine.
But hey, correctly engineered this works well even if it is awkward to bend and twist the belt.
Angled pulleys and right set up should be OK. Maybe higher service level on the belt but that is a low cost.
Today I have "beautified" by pulley bracket with a lot of drilling and cutting.
No pictures until it is chromed and ready but apart from looking better I think I halved its weight.
It's good to hear feom you bill. I need to get my ass into gear and finish up the entire car. Next is fitting thw motor back in and finishing up the tinwork!WLD419 wrote:Damn looking real sweet, you've been a little busy since the show & shine party, you mention something about CF , it sounded plural
like you might make more then one, if so , let me know I would deffinitly be interested in one , it would look cool in the 914 &
allow me more working room, keep up the therapy
, take care Bill D. , one of these days I'll have to cruise by the shop I've made a few changes to the 914
,
It's designed up in my head, I figured I would start with this and see how it worked. It looks like I need to open up the pulleys some more after seeing some of the highlips on other setups. There 7 series aluminum with a 2 1/2" bearing so I'm not to worried about premature failure. I'm just using the original porsche fan belt pulley as the tensioner.NextGen wrote:Love your work!!! The biggest issue is the fan belt as I am sure you are aware. I am a industrial designer in the elevator industry and was given the task of making an elevator rail riding device that can travel faster then the previous 500 fpm and match the speeds of 1600 fpm for the 248 elevators at the Twin Towers of the late WTC. I took the old designs and beefed them up to what I called the OFF ROAD VERSION,ha.
I use automobile wheel bearing, etc. They worked great for three years, till 9-11. I wonder did you work off the original fan pulley design and beef it up.

Those are not the proper gearboxes for a ACVW cooling fan.CobraJet wrote:....... or just look for the proper gearbox.
