86x94 Nickies

Post by onixbonilla »

Hi everyone! I have a Berg engine 86x90.5 that I had been toying with the idea of using 94mm LN Nickies. The present setup is using Carrillos 5.500. Will like to get your recomendations on rod length for the 94 pistons? Should I get longer Nickies? If so, how much longer? Other recomendations?
Thanks :D

What gearing, cam, compression, cam etc.? What is the rev range? How do you drive it?

You need to know all that and more before figuring it out. LN always supplies the cylinders machined to your requested length so you want to get this right. Sticking with 5.5 or going possibly longer depends on all that. Aircooled.net can get you C height pin squishies which you should do for sure. Money is no object when going with LN, so add the pistons for sure. Then you can run a 5.7" rod and keep it as narrow as stock.

Thanks Steve!
The engine is 86x90.5, Carrillos 5.5, CR 8.6:1, Berg 870 heads 42x37.5, Dellorto 48 tri jets, 1 3/4 header. Trans is Berg 5 do not remember actual numbers but it was like 4.12 with 0.82. Car is driven on streets weekly although not daily, on local 90f+ weather. No strip. I understand best performance is around 6,500rpm. Most of the time driven around 3,000rpm because of its great torque. I was thinking on using the 94mm Nickies with their custom JE pistons plus JPM MS230 heads. Increasing the CR ratio to 9.5:1 and increase rod length if necesary.
Thanks

if you would run nickies and jpm heads why not up the compression to 11 or 12 to 1?
there s an engine in europe now that makes 265 hp NA! it runs on 98 octane pump gas!!!
you can see the potential? :)

We only have 91 octane pump gas. I thibk 12:1 would be too much. Am I right?
