@aircooledtechguy
Hey Nate, I was taking a look at your req_fuel and yours is a lot lower than what mine is. What injectors are you running? Mine is set to 18 while yours is at 12.3. I have the teal injectors from a type 4 bus (stock for the motor). I believe they are 76, but am not positive.

The difference is in the lbs p/hr of flow between your injectors and mine. I'm using type-3 (yellow) D-jet injectors which flow @ 26lbs p/hr compared to your L-jet injectors which flow @ 18lbs p/hr. My tune should be 12.6; I'll have to change that. Here is the info I used to set mine up:nickg321 wrote:@aircooledtechguy

Update: My car has been painted and everything is getting assembled. I solved the MS problem...I didn't have a vacuum hooked up
Never bothered to check the basics! The car is running, but need to toy around with acceleration and cold start enrichment and really get into the tuning process.
@aircooledtechguy: Thanks for the tune!

You'll definitely need to fiddle around with the WUE settings for your motor. I have mine set so they are basically off within about 3-4 minutes just like an automatic choke on a carbed car. I figure if a carbed car doesn't need more, that's just fuel out the tail pipe. . .nickg321 wrote:Update: My car has been painted and everything is getting assembled. Glad to hear you figured out the issues. The world needs more MS'd type4 powered type3s

Re: Tuning MS1 extra with EDIS - 2l Type 4 - 67 Squareback
Car is just about done. I have my Porsche 2l built and what nots. Now I am in the process of working on getting it to idle where I want it to. The cam has a large lift (.465) and duration (288).
I have a few concerns about how the car is idling. My pulse width numbers seem a bit high, along with my estimated req_fuel. When idling at 1100-1200 rpm, my pw is at 6.8ish. The idle has a MAP reading of about 62ish. As I rev up, that number gets lower, but it feels/sounds like such a nice and smooth acceleration. What are your guy's normal numbers for PW? Also, how do I go about lowering it if needed?
Currently, my req_fuel calculation tells me I need 17.7. It is a 2l with the L-jet injectors that are 18.1lbs/hour. Under engine constants I have it set at:
Injector opening time: 1ms
Battery voltage correction: .2
PWM Current Limit: 40%
PWM Time: 1 ms
The car starts up easily due to Cranking PW adjustments, yet that PW still is really bothering me. Stock FI has a range of about 3-15 PW I believe.
Any numbers would help
Also, anyone going to the Ranch Run in Lincoln, CA this weekend?

What is your wideband O2 sensor telling you?
The engine alone gets to decide what it wants.
Best lean idle works the same on EFI as carbs, just the "knobs" are numbers in a table in the latter case.
If the result is 8mS PW at idle, so be it.
With a lumpy cam, it may want a richer AFR than you would prefer at idle/low RPM, (due to reversion/short circuiting and internal EGR) but again, only it decides, your job is to simply figure out what it likes.
If you had MS2-extra setup for batch, I'd suggest turning on "timed semi-sequential" as it guarantees injection events at consistent crank angles... std untimed batch (only option on MS1) does not, so you will have random variations, and at least at idle, that likely matters.

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

@Piledriver: Thanks for clearing up the PW issue, to me it just always made sense that if I accelerate the PW would increase.
The car is running and driveable, but needs far more fine tuning. I think I can get more power/better fuel economy out of it. I was lucky enough to have someone hands-on teach me about tuning the other week. You get to meet quite a few people when your dad does bodywork on cars and whatnot. The man who helped me, Charles, has a Model A in our garage that will have MS. He also had a truck that used MS2.
Tomorrow, at the Sacramento Bugorama, will be the first show I am able to bring the car to!
