Cool, they have been working on that for awhile, I personally see that as the eventual future of PCs in general, at least in some form.

JellyBean looks really nice on the X200, BTW
(no wacom TS driver though, no BT, but the mouse/kbd and wifi work out of the box, I guess I need to buy Shadowdash  )
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

I'd be surprised if your home entertainment system, computer, and phone aren't all the same piece of equipment before too long.

I value your posts tremendously Pile, but I wish I understood them better.

kbd==std abbreviiation for keyboard.

Wacom== major maker of graphics tabletts for all sorts of stuff, the wacom driver is a std load in the Linux kernel and ~all distributions. My X200 has a pressure sensitive version as a layer over the screen--- No touch, pen only.

Works great in Win8 on the desktop, not usable for navigation in Metro, so Metro is even more useless.

It took me an hour of research to get it working on Mageia, now that I have the 2 "missing" setup files, getting it working on any current Linux distro takes about 1 minute.(assuming it doesn't just work out of the box)

About to try Plasma-Active3 on Kubuntu (live distro/daily build from today)

The Android-x86 Jelly bean (v4.2) 12252012 release iso looks/works excellent, but bluetooth and the wacom driver don't want to play... or I would already have it installed and be testing ShadowDash on a 12.3" tablet.
Wacom DOES work on Android, as it worked on the 4.0 ICS-thinkpad release, along with BT, but it had no wifi and was pretty useless compared to 4.2.

I may install it and start beating on it anyway if it used grub1 as a loader.
(grub2 does not work well IME, esp does not work alongside grub1)

I sure hope I can get TS running on the Android Tablet that I have on order. It should be in tomorrow. We'll see. I'm planning to run TS off of an Ubuntu memory stick for tuning, and off of Android, with Shadowdash, for everyday gauge usage.

I'm kinda leaning on Pile to help me with the technical stuff. From there, I'll make an over engineered, billet aluminum, sand resistant, quick to remove, housing for it and clamp it to my sandrail.

No problem.

Depending on what tablet you bought, running Linux (proper) is a fallback plan for TS, although I suspect there are mulltiple viable ways to get there from here.

You will be dreaming in PERL before long ...
(or at least you will understand how totally jacked up that might be)

This was considered a munition until 1998:

RSA IN THREE LINES OF PERL

Code: Select all

#!/bin/perl -sp0777i<X+d*lMLa^*lN%0]dsXx++lMlN/dsM0<j]dsj
$/=unpack('H*',$_);$_=`echo 16dio\U$k"SK$/SM$n\EsN0p[lN*1
lK[d2%Sa2/d0$^Ixp"|dc`;s/\W//g;$_=pack('H*',/((..)*)$/)

I'm fighting JellyBean installed on my x200 ATM, it recognises the bluetooth device on boot, may just be missing the firmware, easy fix if that's it...

512MB RAM may prove to be an issue.

Jelly Bean (android 4.2.1) looks AWESOME on a large screen, and allegedly runs perfectly on a Fujitsu T900.
(you didn't say which Fujitsu convertible tablet you had)

It has annoying graphics issues on my X200 (intel HD4500 AKA i915 integrated) and the pen digitizer and BT are inop, but other than the backlight randomly turning off, everything seems to work other than touch screen and BT, and that's probably just a missing driver or two.

The kernel devs are currently in the process of ~completely rewriting the i915 drivers, the current Android kernel unfortunately has a flake version, but that's easily curable once I get the build environment working properly.

ARM binaries run too, there's an integrated ARM emulator courtesy of iNTEL.

Once running, VirtualBox is an installable package, and then I'll be able to run Windows8 or Linux in a VM, although Linux in a chroot should be trivial, and will run on metal.

Currently pulling jb-x86 (4.2.1) , already pricing 8GB of RAM...
(at least it takes DDR3, which is current/cheap)

Android itself doesn't need (nor AFAIK use) 8GB RAM, but BUILDING Android 4.2 needs absolutely everything you can throw at it.

The computer I have on the way is not a Fujitsu. I have been using a Fujitsu tablet with Win2K on it for tuning up until now. I can't get that computer to turn on, however, due to sand in the on button.

Why don't you try taking it apart and cleaning the switch? If the switch is broken you could solder in a remote mounted switch to get by.

That is my plan actually. I have had a cold this weekend though, so I didn't get around to it. I have other issues with my existing tuning computer as well. Its location and mounting system are not as useful as I'd hoped when I originally put it there. Also, the Fujitsu tablets I use are getting difficult to find on Ebay these days. They actually cost more than the tablet I have on the way. I use it as a gauge panel as well as a tool for tuning. With the new tablet, I'll be running GPS, MSEFI gauges, tuning, and music, although probably not all at the same time. The mount, this time around, will use slots and a locking device to locate it on my "windshield" frame rail, so I can remove it with my 5 point harnesses still buckled. As a bonus, I can watch a movie the next time I'm waiting for someone to get a tow strap to tow me out with.
FWIW, I'm assuming that there is sand in the on button because that's what killed my last, identical, computer.

New tablet computer arrived in the mail today. I must have read something wrong though as it doesn't have Bluetooth.
Now I need to get a version of TS to run in Ubuntu so I can put it on a memory card with the Ubuntu operation software.
I finally had a chance to try my ubuntu notebook computer with my MS2. No luck. I think I need a different USB to serail adapter though. The 2 I tried are from Radio Shack. I downloaded an Ubuntu program called "pd-comport", but still had no luck.

A good class1 USB BT dongle is ~$5-10, assuming you aready have the MS end set up.
