Class 11 Rebuild

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

Fixxor...I know I'm a PITA...It's what I do.

- The firewall is good, but needs to extend to the body on both sides. This could easily be done with strips that attach to the body or to the firewall.

A pillars should be nice and strong with no door sag.

In this pic, the hole for access to the clutch tube, etc. is handy if it ever breaks loose (again?), but makes the tunnel VERY likely to break there. I have a friend whose mostly street Baja is broken nearly in half there for that same hole. He has that pan out in the back 40 due to the damage and the body on a different pan.

You're doing nice work. In the end, it should be a nice Class 11 racer!

It's getting there. Slowing down a bit due to $$$ but its close. Got the secondary door latchs done, got the dome light mount welded on, rear shock resevior mounts welded on. Finished up the front cage and set the steering stops. Got the air filter mounted on the firewall even though i didnt get a picture of it and cut the hole for the intake hose. Cleaned it out too. Started on the rear bumper and got that mounted up, need to put the engine in so i can do the skidplate bars.

Really nice! I like it a lot and I agree with Herbie street legal would be cool. Are you using the same kind of air filter that you did on your first build? If I remeber right it was a Donaldson or something similar???? Could you post a link to it???? Thanks.....

Yes the Donaldson G070019. Here is a random link: http://www.westernfilters.net.au/produc ... cts_id=960. I actually ordered if from here: http://apartsdepot.com/detail.cfm?part=1907626 and got the strap mount too.

A bit of an update. Bumpers are all mounted with skid plate bars done as well. Need to weld some tabs on so i can mount skid plates. Decided to make a roof light bar. Will be going with a 20" LED light bar on top. So for the most part fabrication and pretty much 95% done.

Patched up the holes where the rear cage tubing goes. And here is the light bar mounting through the body.
