Yamaha R6 COPS wasted spark & Mexi tps question.

Post by vwgillybilly »

Has anyone tried these with any success? Thery're cheap & fit the VW type one well - they even have a rubber sealing boot.

The pre 2006 ones are CDI so apparently no good, but 2006 onwards ones are inductive (two wire) so should work.

I have this wiring diagram and had my ecu built with coil drivers installed but I need clarification on which way/how to wire them. This may sound silly but I don't wanna fry anything. Do they have a live & earth?

For further info they're made by Mitsubishi & the inductive cop is part number F6T558. The CDI cop is F6T549 & apparently won't work.

All of my current understanding is based on this thread!

Thanks.

The coil drivers put out a negative trigger so you will need to supply a 12v switched to the other side of the coils.

Cool thanks!

Is there any way to determine the polarity of the cops? The pins aren't marked! I'm not gonna assume there is no polarity as with the injectors.

The best option would be in a service manual for that bike.

Here is a thread on the topic of COP polarity

I am using 4 2006 Yamaha R1 coils COP wasted spark. Dwell set at 1.6ms. Use resistor spark plugs. I don't know how similar they are the the R6 coils but I can check the polarity for ya tomorrow.

Awesome people!!! Thanks!

They're the same cop as the R1 I think... Check my part numbers..... I'm sure R1s went to tci cops earlier than R6s.

Appreciate the input!!!

Also whilst I'm waiting for Chris to kindly get back to me does anyone know the polarity of the Mexi TPS? I'm aware the brown/white wire is earth but wondered what wires/pins on the ecu the yellow/red and black wires connect to?

Mario what cops are you using in ths vid? Awesome by the way!

Just sent the PM....Mine are also F6T558. I am still having an random ECU reset at idle even with resistor plugs. My coil drivers are in the same enclosure as my ECU. Will add ferrite beads to the bip373 outputs and the 12v feed to the coils. So far these work pretty good. I am coming from EDIS and it works better. Just go to the R6-forum.com or R1-forum.com and ask if anybody has a coil harness for sale. Cheap. Reds are all connected together and go to +...greys and oranges go to the 4 bip373. Good luck.

Thanks again mate - let me know how the ferrite beads work out. I also have my bip373s installed internally so I may have the same issues......

I already have the pigtail connectors so I should be able to figure this out from here!

Just the Mexi TPS polarity to work out now! Anyone?
