The MS3 idle backport features are mostly in gslenders mod firmwares, some are gradually making it into the latest alphas.
(gslenders FW parallel the latest alphas)
The alphas are pretty well tested, and usually fix many issues, it's just where they add and try out new features in an incremental fashion.
Use the new FW loaders that come with the latest alphas, much improved as well.
gslenders mods do not include the loader.
You should at least turn on semi-sequential, it requires no HW mods, and forces consistent injection timing on all holes.
In std batch that is not happening.

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Re: Is IAC valve really necessary?
Actually the biggest hurdle I had with MS3 was figuring out what to do with all the extra WIRES.
I have more I/O than I can currently find a use for, but I'm working on it...
..And adding an IOX, for CHT/EGT/oil pressure/temp/fuel pressure/relative humidity/stripper alert/multiple VSS monitoring/traction control and just rediculous overkill.

Re: Is IAC valve really necessary?
standard carb, no choke, no throttle just using ignition map to hold idle..... first start in the morning.
its not perfect on a very cold mornings and might want a little throttle to help start but then its ok
