was putting in a axle seal kit on my 67 yesterday (pass side) and when I took off the bearing cover the axle popped out about and inch. Is this ok? Or did the fulcrum plate slip out?
I have absolutly no experience with transmissions.

Axle pop out?
Fellas,
was putting in a axle seal kit on my 67 yesterday (pass side) and when I took off the bearing cover the axle popped out about and inch. Is this ok? Or did the fulcrum plate slip out?

Can you push it back in by the exact same amount?

And, if you turn it forward and backward you can feel if it is out of the plates or not.. But like Bruce said, if the plates are out then it wont go back in all the way..cross your fingers!

Yikes..........I was hanging the axles on my dad's new trans here a while back, and rolled it over w/o thebearing cap on............axle slipped out. I got extremely lucky, and slid it back in with out the fulcrum moving. Fortunately, I greased them up so they'd stay put while I slid them in the first go around. If you can get it back in where it should be, I'd say you got lucky!.
