Orientation of Wiseco 94mm pistons

Post by TouringBubble »

I have a set of Wiseco forged pistons. I'm trying to make sure I'm installing everything correctly.

These pistons have no markings for orientation. the only asymmetrical thing I have found is what looks like extra material on one side for valve reliefs. The tops are completely flat, but one side has some extra material on the bottom.

My assumption is that this side with extra material should go toward the bottom of the motor, based on the valve angle. Is this correct?

the valve relives on the bottom for the pistons do no matter for your vw engine that piston come as a slug first and then is machined for valve relives for some engines put the pins in the pistons and measure from the outside of the pin to the outside of the pistons on each side of the piston if the measure the same the piston can go in either way stock vw pistons and malhe pistons will have a pin offset that have to go in the right way or they will have piston slap. wisecos je and all custom pistons will have the pin centered in the piston so it doesn't matter which way you put them in if the pins are centered i would put the valve relives up or away from the cam hope this helps
