Post by Bugskinner »

I have a 71 bug with the wiper switch on the dash and I cant seem to figure out how to remove it.
Does it get removed from the front or the back?
Sorry if this is somewhat of a noob question I tryed searching for it on google and on this site but couldn't find anything.

The best way to remove that is follow the bently and use a special tool that grabs two slots of the nut/bolt from inside the car. A few people reproduce that tool Rocky being one of them;

Yeah some may call it overkill, but you can't have too much overkill.

Is there any way to get it off with standard shop tools. My reliable Vw blew up so I'm forced to drive this one and it has no windshield wipers. It wouldn't be to much of an issue since I live in AZ but this happens to be the rainy month where we get all of our rain for the year in one month. I live in a very remote location and the tool will probably take a week to get here.

Two screwdrivers, or one and a hammer. It'll damage or possibly destroy that threaded ring, but you can remove them with some swearing and ingenuity. Getting the correct tool is a viable option if you plan to do this several times, or you can weld up something similar.

Ok got it. I didn't realize the rubber knob just unscrewed from the switch. I didn't even see where the special tool fit in. I made a tool using the nickel mythod described on
. Thanks everyone.
