Type 4 quandary....

Post by bj »

I installed my type 4 motor in my 59 bug using a 71 ghia dsc converted case to swing. I'm using an aftermarket early type 2 nosecone as well. My issue is that it seems that the trans is longer than the previous trans ( early swing which I no longer have)... Therefore pushing my motor closer to the apron causing deck lid and installation issues.

Just wondering if anyone know if the aftermarket type 2 nose cone has different dimensions than an original?

Are there any length differences between the two cases?

I have a feeling I already know the answer, but am looking for a more experienced confirmation.

Thanks!

A don't think there are any differences in tranny lengths between swing/IRS-DSC/SSC T1 style trannys. I have no knowledge about split case trannys if thats what you had before. There may be an issue with your front mount.

All type 1 gearboxes that are not split down the middle (ie. tunnel type full synchro) are the same length. The Type 2 nose cone modification adds zero to the length.
