Received a lil parcel from James at stateside turning today.

Very exciting. :D :D :D

All parts balanced...
HD Gland nut and large washer.

69mm crank.

Image

here you can see where the metal has been grinded off to balance the crank.

Image

here is a pic of the CB Performance Forged Chromo Lightened Flywheel.

Image

In this picture you can see where James has drilled the flywheel to a perfect balance. Material is removed from the outer most edge as possible to reduce the weight and to help the revs build quicker.

This pic show the Kennedy clutch pressure plate. The clutch bolts are numbered so I know how they go back in and he has even written my name on it. So I don't forget it. HAHA

That goes to your pressure plate, IF you don't have the late style collar mounted throw out bearing. I've got one of those sitting on my garage floor right now :D

Thanks for the info mate. I'm using a late throw out bearing so will leave this out of the build.

Haha I'm on it mate. :D

Had a long weekend of cleaning. Very boring but got a good amount of work done.

First up was cleaning the crank with white spirit then a hot wash. It was then dried using lint free cloths.

I then removed the 4 crank oil plugs and cleaned some more using ear buds.

Image

Image

I will refit these once I get round to buying some Loctite number 242.

Next was cleaning up my used 1776 Mahle Forged barrels and pistons...

Image

They are in very good nick Having only done 1000 miles.

All they needed was a good clean and a coat of high temp black paint.

Image

Image

The piston rings and gudgeon pins were removed. I will be installing a set of total seal rings when my new ring pliers arrive.

I also removed a lot of burrs round the holes inside the pistons.

Image

The pistons came up very well.

Image

Finally wiped a small amount oil round the inside of the barrels to stop rust.

Do it mate. But tbh I bought it as a kit from Mario at http://www.thedubshop.net/ so not sure how much help I will be.

Yes mate, Chesterfield.

Here's my build thread, no pics as yet but will update in due course. I ordered my MS2 V3 ecu today, fortunately I managed to get the Mexi stuff for a song of VZI. Though my mate bought a complete Mexi EFI engine last year for £550!!!

http://www.shoptalkforums.com/viewtopic ... 3&t=139305

How's it all going?

Regards.

Gill.

Sounds like a nice build mate. The amount of money I shelled out in the end fixing up my used heads. Wish I had just bought some new CB 044 heads.

I went for a TCS-10 as my turbo is on the small side and it would help stop back pressure.

To be honest the build is a lot more of a struggle than I had first thought. Loads of measuring and remeasuring.

Hopefully it will be worth it in the end.

I'm a perfectionist and it feels good just to take my time and make sure everything is 100% correct.

I'll put up some pix of my mexi set up soon.

:D

Update...

First up was installing new set of bolt up rocker shafts. I'm using my old rockers off my 1300cc.

Image

I dismantled the old shafts then cleaned the rockers and pedestals.

After cleaning, cleaning and more cleaning. I sanded the friction edges using 600 grit sandpaper.

Image

from this...

Image

to this....

Image

and this...

Image

to this....

Image

Next I replaced the old tappet screws for swivel feet.

Image

Then I built up the shafts and bolted them onto the heads without any shims.

Image

Shims will then be added to to achieve the rocker shaft side play of 0.005" or 0.127mm.
Thanks

Next up I noticed a lot of burrs in my rocker covers.

Image

You can see them here on the mating surface...

Image

So I got out the dremel...

Image

One more job done.

Fitting a Coolant Temperature Sensor (CLT).

Image

I drilled a 14mm hole and tapped my head at cylinder number 3.

Image

Then carefully screwed in the CLT sensor like so...

Image

Done

Remember these????

Image

They came out of my crank. now that the crank oil passages have been cleaned. They are ready to go back in with a little Loctite number 242.

:D

Update...

Got my case back from stateside tuning.

Jobs done...

Align bore.
Drill & Tap galleries.
Lathe cut oversize bearing.
New set of bearings.
Case clean.
Cut for 90.5 barrels & Spot faced.

Image

Image

Image

First up was to fit bearings and check oil hole alignment.

Image

The marks are made so that I can be sure that the bearing are sitting correctly on final fitting of the crank.

Image

Oil hole alignment looks goooooood.

Thanks
