68 bay trans

Post by PEPPE »

i was installing a low mileage 68 trans. i. ve seen that the flywheel portion of case does not mate perfectly with the trans case, leaving some parts of the seal uncovered. it does seal however but i was thinking if there was a specific one for that transaxle. i've checked around and in my stash there are not other ones...

Early "acorn nut" 3 rib had it's own bell housing.
Half year only transmission is what I understand.

It should still seal well enough even though only the inside edge mates. However if installed in a 1976 or later bus it will be a little shorter at the front mount as the 002 trannys are ~3/6" shorter than the 091 trannys.

oops, by the way, if using the later 1700,1800 or 2000 motor you will need to swap the pilot shaft for the longer later one.

Pepe .. If this is what you're rebuilding, and you need a new pinion bearing (double roller), please PM me. (I may have the last one)
