I-90 Exit38 to Exit74 The Dirt Road Version
Karl (turbobaja) I and have been chatting about getting together and doing a little ride.
We have set a date of Sunday, June 10 and we would like to toss out an invitation to the NW guys to see if we have anyone willing to come join us.
The plan will be to meet at Exit 38 off of Eastbound Interstate 90 at 9:00AM. Not to thrashy-trashy trail ride, mostly service roads and back roads. Starting out at exit38, wind up the pass on a few back roads, the final pull up through Denny Creek to Alpental rd in the valley between the freeway. Then over past Hyak down through Gold creek up over to LK Kachees down to Easton then down the final stretch of dirt to Exit74 and on to my place.
Do some BBQ lunch at my place and then back up through Mt Amabalis to LK Kechelus and finish back out at the top of the pass again. Depending on how time is going? I have a nice 40mile loop from my place that will take us up over the south Cle Elum Ridge that I can add to the ride before heading back up the pass.
I don't know how to post the actual map picture but here is the link to the plotted version.

So......Any Takers?

Ok before anymore guys go welllllllllllllllll this is a bit to far for me just stop. See CWB took his Baja and son, loaded up the castle on wheels and drove from Washington State to Just south of Las Vegas for the Mint 400 race. That my friends is commitment. With that being said here is my excuse for not coming.
My pussy hurts and I don't have the nads to make the trip. There, I said it. CWB you guys I know are going to have a blast, hope you have some takers on this ride. Anybody and everybody who could make it needs to. Haven't met Karl but Daron is a first rate guy who is a blast to be around, especially with a little Capt in him.

I want to meet Karl's baja, even if it takes driving 1100 miles just to get to the spot.
I drove my baja from Boise to Salt Lake and back for the Berg 2002 cruise. I still have ringing ears and a numb ass from it! I haven't drank a red bull since...

This should be a pretty fun trip. There's gonna be some real nice views up there, maybe some snow patches, hopefully more sun than rain
. I haven't been on the back roads up there in many years so I'm really looking forward to it. On top of the good company and adventure, there's a couple added bonuses as I see it: BBQ lunch @ Daron's can't be a bad thing, and I bet he won't mind if we have a peek at the little project he's been working on in his shop
.
Steve, you know where my Baja will be Sunday June 10th....just sayin'

Shoot, the least I can do for a man who gave me a sticker is try to attend his cruise and eat his food and drool over his car. I'll start thinking about doing an engine swap once the girl heads to work here in a bit. This will require Red Bull

I'll probably be swapping jets and fiddling with interior trim bits untill the night before we leave too
Why the engine swap Chris? That's gotta be like a 45 minute project for a guy like yourself, in a baja no less

Re: I-90 Exit38 to Exit74 The Dirt Road Version
Well, the 1775 that was running so well years ago broke a headstud...and I just haven't driven it since pulling the engine (out the top, leaving the cage and basket still on). The only engine I have that's big enough to push the baja is the 1915 in Dad's old `77...and taking it out is a bit of a chore with the dual 42 DCNF's. I must also swap over the exhaust system. A couple hours to maneuver each one, but I think I need to clean up a bit before I tackle such a project, it'll be an all day affair
While welding things onto the baja last night my buddy stopped by with the muffler falling off his Jetta III - Turns out it was about the same size as the one from my old asphalt circle-track car! So the garage is littered with a couple thrasher projects. Turns out he'd been wanting to have it fixed for awhile, but a shop was gonna' charge him $300...I told him to bring me $65 if he felt inclined.

Engine is in the baja...and even put new calipers/rotors on Mom's Escape first. I still have to change the heat exchangers/header/muffler and put the cage back on...later. Looking forward to it!

Right On! Nice work man.
It might be interesting up there, I heard Crystal Mountain got 7" of snow earlier this week and they're still open with a 115" base
. Snoqualmie isn't quite that high, but Daron said some of these roads need to melt off a few feet of snow to be drivable ( a couple weeks ago). I kinda hope we run into at least a little snow

I tell ya, we just spent the weekend riding with some friends just north of Ellensburg. Did 150 miles in 2 days in the baja following my boys on the 450's. All of it on green dot roads and ATV legal. Might have to put together a camping trip later this summer.560 wrote:Really sux my car is not "street legal" to drive off the road in WA.![]()

I just might have to look deeper into the info.CentralWAbaja wrote:I tell ya, we just spent the weekend riding with some friends just north of Ellensburg. I was told that the forest circus/tree police do not allow any vehicle that is not licensed on the forest roads. Now about the ATV trails I am not sure. I have a class 2 OHV sticker from Oregon, wonder if that will cover it???

Re: I-90 Exit38 to Exit74 The Dirt Road Version
I think you can ORV it in WA just like I ORV my rigs for Oregon....but you don't have a VIN do you? That might make things tougher
These are not Forrest Service roads, these areas are Fish and Wildlife maintained DNR lands and are known as Green Dot roads and are open to OHV's
We played on these. http://www.dnr.wa.gov/Publications/amp_ ... _dec08.pdf
We hit snow on the only road that will get us up and over to the Whiskey Dick area. http://wdfw.wa.gov/lands/wildlife_areas/lt_murray/ But that would....will... make for a heck of a ride later this summer. Start out where we camped and work all the way up over and down to the Columbia River between Vantage and Sunland. Probably have to do some planning as that may even need to be o'er night'r. And may even have to pack fuel.
But....for this trip...yes you must be street legal
