Re: SCAT'S Split Ports With New Rocker Box Design
Gentlemen, gentlemen. After 60 years, the silly little deflectors still inspire debate. It will never end.
Wonderful pics and stories of past experience. So few of us really build the high end stuff, but i always love the stories.

Re: SCAT'S Split Ports With New Rocker Box Design
The angle of the pushrod tubes into the rocker box bugs me.
I know that the T1 did that to a certain extent, but...
Did they bear the shafts unevenly, or smack the thrust side of the rockershaft?

The heads were designed for the Type 1, and are just re drilled for the Typ lV stud pattern. so on the No. 1 & 4 cyl's the exh lifter on a Type lV is in a different location than a Type 1, and so are angled.Clatter wrote:The angle of the push rod tubes into the rocker box bugs me.

They wouldn't smack the thrust side of the rockers, but put continuous pressure. And due to the rockers being closer together and the shafts are shorter and secured at 3 points, I see a far stronger setup with very little if any shaft deflection compared to the stock Type lV setup.

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Re: SCAT'S Split Ports With New Rocker Box Design
He isn't in forums and I don;t even have his email or contact details.
I did see the heads just before assembly though and he had them ported and detailed to the max. They looked GREAT!
Understood he was very happy with them, and liked the new construction a lot. Said port lay-out was more symmetrical between left-right heads and of course no more rocker shafts through the rocker walls helped too.
He ran the old type before these (and lost a seat iirc), so if anyone can compare...
Also understood they were back ordered for a looooong time and then all of a sudden arrived after some phone calls or something. Don't know exactly anymore what the story was.

Re: SCAT'S Split Ports With New Rocker Box Design
That is a lot of information and I like it.
I would consider ordering them rough and finish them with JM7 bronze seats and own detailing then.
Now ordering and backlog time, is a turn-off that mean lost business from my side.
I will see if I can get someone with leverage to get a real answer on delivery time, in that case. Or no go.
2366 with Danish Supercharger...I like it!

Flow numbers from JPM. 225 CFM at 25" That is after Johannes ported them. Interesting. ...and THANKS Beetle Bug for sharing.

@Wally:is the builder of the original splitport engine the one that has the purple dragster?
