ya my car is super low to the ground. so anything under the car will not work for me. im looking into a bigger radiator already. might go with a full size honda radiator seeing as i can pick up an aluminum one quite cheap off ol ebay, and sell this porsche radiator. i do wanna try it tho, just to see...lol.

And what is your plan for the coolant-lines to the front ?

myself im thinking of running it in the passengers-side footwell with a boltable tunnel over the lines.

was thinking of using 1 1/2 inch exhaust pipe that would run on the bottom sides of the pan haves. like run them along the pan edges where they bolt to the body.

if you want (lots more work involved) drill all the spot welds outta the bottom of the heater channels, and put the coolant lines in their. or you can run them inside of the car.

i´m probably going to run them on the passenger side floor with some kind of "tunnel" over them.

Image Heres My WBX Okrasa 2.5 rad' install in a b/j car, i run the minimal ride height i can at 40mm, so all coolant lines are in the tunnel for protection which helps with the tech' race inspections as well, up front is a Golf diesel rad, it uses electric only, thermo controlled cooling with no mechanical pumping losses for reasons of development latitude in the cooling and a possible conversion to Rallycross racing where dirt and Mud can compromise front only cooling, so at the rear i have a pair of Honda superbike VCR rads, very efficient and light weight, one by the starter, the other opposite the outflow from # 2/3 cylinder, they cool each head before feeding into the flow line to the front, they are fed air from side window ducts, the motor runs only 80 degs in races on both the water and oil. the front rad is high mounted for several lessons ive picked up on, its more efficient with a rake angle slowing the air in the ducting, and also it helps protect the engine from air locks and makes for easy air bleeding, it also leaves room under it for the battery and various oil coolers, finally its well protected from racing 'love taps' which is not uncommon. you have more room in a 1303 than i had, plus i had no road car compromises like spare wheels to consider, but i will say it gets VERY warm inside if you run pipework internally, i know because ive done it in the past, best plan good insulation if you go that route....good luck with it,

You got pics of your Honda radiators? I'd love to see how you got them mounted up. Thanks for all the great info!

No pics to hand just now, ill see about some soon, the trick is to angle them to promote flow and avoid air locks, ie feeds uppermost, i repositioned the feed pipes and installed a bleeder to suit my install and also take the head temperature from them as they recieve the hottest head water directly, they have 100c warning sensors wired in as stock, if i did them again i would fit them onto removable panels from the inside, i dont use fans except at the front which is sufficient, it was a lot of work to duct them airtight and keep them simple to work on, but they worked with no problems from day one, so i wish now id made them with removable instalation panels. regards.

Ya the Porsche "center radiator" I think will not be up for the task of keeping my motor cool. The inlet/outlet on the radiator are 7/8 inch. A bit too small. But on the up side, it's a perfect fit for the front the front grills that are in the front apron on my super.

so i went thru my extra parts i had laying around. for thoes folks in knowlage of all this cooling stuff, would this set up be enought to cool it? id put the long radiator in the front behind the vents in the front apron, then mount the other cooler (orange oil cooler will be used as a radiator) behind the other cooler and mount the 10" fan behind it. will it work? looking for ideas, input. heres the picture.

The "radiator" on top from the oilcoolingsystem is something i would just throw away. WAY to little surface area to make any significant difference , if you want HIGH performance cooling, be it water/glycol mixtures or oil , go http://www.setrab.se/ for some REAL raceproven performance.

I have had a change of plans in my build as i have gotten hold a already finished set of coolantpipes complete with attachment and hoses for free , THANK you dear clubmembers of Old VWs in Mark / Sweden.

If you are interested i can post pictures of them.

well after a long weekend of driving, i went up to salt lake city to go get my WBX motor. its a low milage motor, and has AMC heads. also it has an external oil cooler and lines. all in all, its all their. the only questions i have is in the pics i have highlighted the coolent hoses that i need to know where they go to. ive tried to see if i can find a diagram, but i cant. tomarrow ill get my 200mm flywheel/clutch installed and should get it in the car. also i went to the junk yard today and i came up with a radiator that should work. i got it out of a 75' subaru GL. old suby for sure. but the size of the radiator is perfect. ill get pics of it tomarrow. and also id like to get the radiator installed in the car as well, or i hope to. then it will be on to the task of fabbin up the coolent lines that will run from front to back, then hook it all up, make some changes in my megasquirt efi, and she should start right up. :) heres the pics of where i need to know where these coolent lines go to.

http://www.benplace.com/cooling_system_flow.htm
This explains the stock Vanagon cooling system pretty well as well as Ben's page being a great resource
