CHT gauge issue

Has anyone experienced a problem with a CHT gauge not working? Well i started troubleshooting my issue. First I checked continuity of red/blk/pos/neg wires from gauge to sender(they checkout fine). Then I start the motor to get sum heat on the heat, then put a multimeter on the sender to check volt(2.7v). Connected the plug that connects the sender and gauge, checked volts( red to red and blk to blk) got nothing. Flipped the +\_- on the gauge and BAM it works! Cut off the motor and the gauge reads the temp as it's cooling down. Go figure!

VDO, right? They sold them for years with the terminals labeled backwards on the rear face of the gauge.
