Has Anyone Used Fuel Fragrance in their Aircooled VW?

I was thinking of using the Banana Blast fragrance in my lunar yellow '73 Beetle along with some top oil and some blue Marine Stabil.

I thought I would at least try it once.
I don't drive much so, one bottle might last me over six months.

Awesome Jim, please do report back once you have used it, I am very interested in if there are any adverse effects on the motor...be very interested to see if it causes any build up in the combustion chamber or on the faces of the valves of cause you won't be able to see unless the heads are removed.

I haven't heard of the Marine Stabil however I am guessing its a fuel stabilizer...could I make a suggestion. When you park up your car, with the engine turned off removed the brass float bowl plug from the carburetor and drain all the fuel from the carb bowl. This will stop any fuel that is in the carb from going off and causing huge start up and running problem as curled fuel will block up the jets very quickly. Ive been told by an engine builder to try and not run any additives through engines as this can cause adverse engine issues. Maybe only run as much fuel as you need in the tank so when you park up the car the little amount of fuel left will be diluted the next time you fill up with fresh fuel.

With the marine engines we work on we drain the carb and disconnect the fuel cell from the engine and drain that also, however boat engines only are normally run over the summer so this could be a real pain to do to a car that is used once or twice a month...

Yes it is a fuel stabilizer for ethanol gasoline.

I try to start it up, turn on the hi-beam lights, and pump the brakes once a week.

I also plan to drive it once a week.

I only buy 5 gallons of gasoline at a time and only do that every 2 or 3 months.

In cold weather with the windows rolled up, I smell gas vapors after I fill up.

If it smelled like bananas it wouldn't be so bad although it would still give me a headache.

I don't know for sure. The add says it is for ethanol gas.
I use premium unleaded. There is no sticker on the pump saying it is up to 10% ethanol but I think it is. I buy it at a Sams. The same truck fills the tanks at the local Walmarts. Their pumps are labeled 10% ethanol.

I read somewhere that if water or water from condensation gets into gas with ethanol, the gas separates and forms acids that eat away at fuel system components.

I put it in and topped off the tank today.
So far so good with no apparent problems.
When I got home I got out and sniffed the exhaust.
It did has a little banana smell.
I don't think i will buy another bottle. It was just something to try once.

that stuff is for e85. In case you have never driven a catless car on ethanol (e85 is 85% ethanol, 15% gasoline), your exhaust smells like you have a drunk whino breathing on you.

The directions on the bottle said you can use it with gasoline non catalytic convertor operated vehicles.

I bought a kit from cip1 to fix it. It is the filler neck hose and a few other things.

The filler neck hose looked flimsy and had that Chinese rubber smell like some new shower curtains have.
I have not installed it yet.
