No problem as of yet - I hope you didn't just jinx me  the only problem I ever had with mine was the choke element it came with went bad, replaced it with a better one. When I bought it I was still pretty green on the VW hobby, but it's been solid so far (and was worlds better than the 28 my bug came with). If it ever starts to act up I'll probably chuck it & put a VW / SOLEX carby on rather than mess with fixing it.

Ok...update people...so as suggested...looked at the carb and distributor system...well i didn't change the carb but i changed the jets..the idle jet was a 45 so i upped it to 55...i also changed the timing...what a world of difference!the car is more responsive and so far the oil light hasn't come on even once. The idling is even more stable(before it would stumble as though it wants to go off).I noticed the main jet is a tad big though..x137.5..i read that the main jet for a 1600sp should be x127.5...maybe i should look into that

I don't know what's the venturi size on that carburettor, so watch out because you could run lean if you downsize the main jet

oh, and getting the proper wider belt for your alternattor is definetly very important!

What did you change the timing too?

I have a size 130 main jet on my 34PICT3 carb on my 1600cc DP type 1 engine.
It runs really good.
I wouldn't go smaller than a 127.5 main jet.

since I don't have any tools to precisely set the timing I usually set it manually with the ignition and idling.if it starts with a quarter kick then its ok.if idling and response are ok then I have struck a balance.

so far so good ..changed the main jet to 127.5 and the car seems to run ok so far. keep you updated.
