WEBER IDF'S on a 1.9

Post by blue manx »

 I am having trouble with the stock fuel injection and have a single cab with tons of room. If I match port the intakes can I just put on a set of 40's I already own with a 3.5lbs fuel pump and a pertronixignition 009? I already did match port the manifolds and lose the stock fuel injection? Maybe some 1.25 rockers as well?

I've seen Berg IDF manifolds welded up before match porting to the wasser heads, seemed to be good choice.

If you have the "non-fixed, non-vacuum advance" distributor it would be best to change. Otherwise the stock might be a better choice.
Yeah some may call it overkill, but you can't have too much overkill.

If you have the Vanagons original ignition and it has a vacuum can on it RUN IT, probably the best bolt in ignition available for any ACVW... er boxer. The mechanical advance is easily tweakable too.

You will probably lose considerable torque with Webers vs a properly running EFI on the factory manifolds... hit the EFI forum. L jets easy and the brain/wiring can be replaced with Megasquirt if all else fails.

Note that ~90% of the time the factory EFI with really annoying issues are wiring related, although nice replacement harnesses are available for the LJet/Digijet/whateverjet)

The "hard part" of most Megasquirt conversions is already done--- the fuel system and manifolds will work peachy.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

:twisted:Since I already own the webers and will not be driving much in the winter here I have run them on a similar sized type 1 with out a lot of trouble. I have heard many complaints about the stock fuel injection here and just want to simplify what I have. The distributor I now have is a dual vacuum advance/retard that may be simpler just to run a 009 with a pertronix? I am after a more reliable simpler to fix solution than more torque or power right now.

The dual vac in good shape is still far better that the 009, esp. if you have vacuum ports.

You want vacuum advance, just leave the retard side disconnected. (not plugged)

If you don't have vac ports, the vac unit just won't do anything.

:twisted:I think there is a vacuum port on one of the carbs and could put a t for manifold vacuum for the retard side from the brake booster? What is the total advance for the 1.9 distributor and retard?

Don't confuse ported vacuum with manifold, and the built in taps are a little small, normally people put their own ports for into the manifold. And its rare to use the retard side of the distributor.
