Hi everyone. I'm looking for an MV engine case for a Vanagon wbx rebuild. From what I hear MV cases usually don't need an align-bore. Hoping to find a clean one that won't need major work. Haven't had any luck locally so might have to get one shipped. Wondering about condition of main saddles, head studs, and anything else. What should I look for or avoid?
Thanks

Things to look for. Head studs need to be checked for corrosion and rust pitting any stud that has rust pits must be replaced. Main bores are 95% of the time OK, but must be checked with a bore gauge. Pitting on the water jacket seal surface must be repaired. Water pump area must be checked and repaired if needed. Cracks around the alt. bracket studs. Badly rusted studs around the block are also a problem on some blocks. I drill and tap all the oil galley plugs as I have seen a number to these come loose or blow out. Just buying a used block any number of the above problems may exist. Deluxe blocks are getting harder to find as most need the repair I have mentioned. I do have blocks that I sell that have been checked and repaired. You can email me at [email protected] Thanks Rocky
