Oil pump question.

Post by D7 »

Having finished blundering through the rebuilding of my 1500 /1775 motor and following the advice on the forum, I packed the oil pump with bearing grease.
This motor had an exterior oil filter and the previous owner removed the filter but just connected the hose from the oil pump back in to the sump.
My concern is that the grease will block the oil in to the hose but I am not sure if that really is a problem or not. There is no oil pressure control valve in the motor. The last thing I want to do is remove the nuts off the oil pump as these things are so touchy re stripping the threads.

I've heard of packing the oil pumps with Vaseline petroleum jelly but not with wheel bearing grease.
I have never done either. I always just squirted them with oil before assembly.
