Thanks again. Have started up a few times this morning with absolutely no problems. Perhaps my problem on first start-up after replacing the starter was due to the battery being cranked over too much during pre-removal testing.

I had an intermittent "no start" on my '65 Beetle (sigh) in '68-'69...

Turn the key, the idiot lights dim, but no crank. Replaced the key switch-no change.

Long story, wound up selling the car. As the new owners (I worked with the guy's dad) were tearing the car down for a buggy build, one day the dad asks me if I ever had any starting problems. They had found that one of the wires that run to the starter was frayed with an intermittent ground as it passed thru the firewall.

If anyone can use a '65 keyswitch, I can hook you up!
