Same here......if you end up getting one first you should let me know how it works out for you. Do you know what version trans you want?

Re: Reverse drive Subaru 5 speed for rear engine VW's now do
Thanks for the compliments guys, we are getting more and more of these done all the time.
Customer is doing an EJ25 STi turbo and 5 speed into a '72 type 2 Kombi this week.
Another customer has almost finished an EJ22 and 5 speed into a type 3 notchback.
Both conversions will be detailed on the site with pix and plans for the mounts for everyone to use as templates once they are finished and proven with testing and engineering.
Anyway, we are now supplying block off kits with every 2WD conversion kit ordered. These block off the large 80mm hole left when shortening the 4WD transmission to 2WD and the smaller hole in the shift rod case. It consists of the billet Subaplug, created to give just enough clearance internally, and the minimum transmission length externally. We also use a 14mm x 1.5 threaded plug for the shift rod housing. There is a third hole to be filled, this needs Devcon to fill it as its a weird shape. This allows the home builder to do this conversion without needing to do any welding. Our own conversions TIG weld this weird shaped hole but not everyone has access to one.
I will have to double check on the next beetle install but I would say this reduced transmission length gives a fair bit more room for Subie cam covers clearance to the wings now. Should be minimum to no cutting.
Subaplug :

Tapping the thread all the way through the shift rod housing to accept the threaded smaller plug :

Plugs fitted and loctited in place :

Oh and every conversion now comes with a free billet 5 speed Subarugears gear knob :

One of these days when I have money to just wing around, I've got some ideas for some of this stuff.

It's a pipe dream for now. I have to find some method of earning money before I get serious about it.turboedbug wrote:MinamiKotaro wrote:I will be getting one of these eventually.

Hi Guys,
Can you clarify the pros and cons of using a TY752, TY753, TY754, or TY755 transmission? I see on the website you recommend the TY754, unfortunately, the majority of the JDM engines I see (in the price range I'm looking at) have a TY752 transmission.
I figure I better get this detail sorted out now...

Re: Reverse drive Subaru 5 speed for rear engine VW's now do
THe TY754 is the common '8 bolt' bellhousing style transmission produced since 1999. It includes some revisions to the older TY754 style and is generally a better, stronger, slicker shifting transmission. Having said that, the older TY752 transmission is fine, as long as it hasn't been abosed and had the syncros and gears worn out. The TY752 is a '4 bolt' bellhousing style. Both the 4 bolt and 8 bolt bellhousings are interchangeable and the same pattern so no real problems there.
I generally recommend the TY754 because its center diff housing is easy to shorten and make into a 2WD housing. This is not so easy with the TY752 because it has more holes to weld up and the shift mechanism is somewhat more exposed. Note - the TY754 and TY752 centre diff housings and shift mechanisms are interchangeable with each other so you can mix and match.
If you can only get TY752 transmissions you can always purchase shortened TY754 centre diff housings from us to complete your conversions. PM me to discuss.

Ok I see you talking about it as a rwd convertion on the trans but will I be able to use this rear mounted Subi 5speed to make my type 3 AWD
Because I have been looking for something that won't absolutely break the bank and still be able to keep my car rear engine but have AWD. I just haven't found much information on it
