Add the new manual gearbox and the new engine case to those changes for '70 model year (not to mention the D-jet) and we have one of the most re worked cars ever for its first year.
Anybody making a total list of all known changes '69 to '70?

I think only major changes that haven't been mentioned yet, were made to the heater: The switch was moved to dashboard, temperature sensor was changed, and the hot air flaps moved from the heat exchangers to the sills. Ofcourse all these improvemets (in body, engine, transmission, heater) changed several details like engine/transmission's suspension and wiring. But similar small improvements were made just about every year.

I asked the owner about the mistery knob between the instruments and his answer was "i have no idea, I've never used it"

is that a 69 auto too?
In the end i'm probably not going to buy that 411, parts availability is too much of a concern for a car that I need to be reliable :D

I drive my 412 to work through Seattle traffic 50 miles per day, 5 days a week. I've gone through my car completely to fix the worn-out stuff, rebuilt the motor, replaced the D-Jet with SDS EFI, etc. I've spent a lot of time and money getting it to this point but it has been very reliable and fun to drive. It's a unique car that works (and then some). I agree that reliable, in-expensive parts availability is not on par with bugs, buses, etc. But, with a T4, it's more about time and money availability. Parts are rare, but with time and money, parts can be obtained or made. I've chosen to replace worn-out or obsolete critical parts with custom or after-market parts to ensure the car is reliable, remains useful as a commuter, but retains the vintage appeal.

It's tough to be a casual T4 owner if your expectations are aligned with bugs, buses, etc. But, if you go "all in" with a T4, it can be very gratifying.

reliable
there is no question about the reliability of a type 4

But of course, like all cars, things can be broken
It's a question about how many energy/time/money you will invest to get/drive/enjoy a wunderful car
But if you take enough with less...

It's not reliability what I doubted, but seeing the non-existant parts availability, I don't want to have the car off the road for weeks waiting for a vital part to arrive (if I even find it)....and thruth is that I just found an even lower mileage type 3 8) 8) , which was my original intention, so for now, no type 4 for me, sorry!
if I ever have enough space for more cars...then I'd consider that 411 for sure!

When you are taking a long time...and then try to send....it will give yopu a message "invalid post or response"....just hit submit again and it wakes it up and sends for you. Because of various sleep issues with computers....I always right click and copy my post right before trying to resubmit. Ray

I replaced D-Jet with SDS EFI and Mallory ignition when I rebuilt the motor to 2056: http://www.shoptalkforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=118181
